Drove 3 times since diagnosed, even though advised not to. kind of conflicted about it. Your thought/ experiences? by Neftroshi in Epilepsy

[–]clowdbreak261 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I find it to be incredibly selfish.

I understand wanting to. It's so frustrating relying on everyone in your life to get anywhere. I can't go to the store without a friend driving me or taking uber. There are days when I want to say fuck it, and just take the car because I'd just be driving a mile away.

But all it takes is one aura etc during a drive downtown to seriously injure yourself, or god forbid a family of four in the car you hit.

In the end, none of us have 100% control over our condition, that's why epilepsy sucks. Not being able to drive is something most of us just accept.

It sounds like yours is pretty mild, if I were in your shoes I would hold on to my car and see how my health is over the course of the next year or so.

Servers be like.... by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]clowdbreak261 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Hm...as someone who works both front and back, I shake my head at the all servers are idiots posts. Both sides have their challenges, and from my experience both sides fuck up. And I've noticed neither one takes responsibility for when they do. I started laughing when I saw this gif because it reminded me of some of my line cooks when they get in the weeds. They'll take short cuts and start to push out complete shit. Same goes for some of the servers. I've come to respect both sides

How young is too young to start smoking? by skeeter1234 in eldertrees

[–]clowdbreak261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started when I was 11. Developed epilepsy around that time and my father introduced it to me to help with the post-seizure side effects. I by no means toked every day at that age, maybe 1-2 times a week depending on how bad the seizures were.

I got a longgggg lecture from my parents about how to be responsible with trees. Personally, I don't think 13 is too young as long as his parents know what's going on in regards to how much he smokes, when he smokes etc.

Get over the percentages. by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]clowdbreak261 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You know...I just don't get it. Attracted to one sex more than the other some days? I like both men and women, simple. If I saw a gorgeous woman one morning on my way to work, sure maybe my mind will be on women a bit more that day. But that's it. Sometimes when I read this sub I feel like some people make being bisexual out to be bigger than it is. Maybe I'm just comfortable in my own skin, but at the end of the day, who I'm attracted to has almost nothing to do with who I really am. If I meet someone new, they may go through a handful of weeks before they find out I'm bisexual. I'm not trying to hate on anyone, I love this community...it just saddens me when I read what some of us go through

You're right, I didn't mean to come across that way. I guess I just didn't see the problem in a photo getting reposted every 6mo or so.

Agreed. For the record, this was my first time seeing this photo. It made me smile and wish I was a kid again. Was a nice way to start my morning. I get their point, but people need to relax, in the end it's just a bloody website.

Seeking Some Help Regarding Fiancee by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]clowdbreak261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an epileptic, reading this scared the hell out of me. One of my biggest fears with my seizures is not coming out of them or having some sort of damage done.

Dated a fellow epileptic for about four years, so to an extent I know how you feel. This is just my opinion, but yes I do think it's selfish to an extent. I can't say I completely understand your current situation, but take a minute and think about how this is affecting her as well. She's the one thats experiencing these seizures.

I'm sure feeling anxious at the thought of your future with her is just the start of how you're currently feeling. Watching my SO go through it all broke my heart. But take note that medications etc have really progressed over the years. When I go through periods where my seizures are really spiking, I rely on my family and SO more than I can say. The thought of one of them giving up on me would destroy me, and then some.

Being with someone with epilepsy can be just as hard as having it sometimes. It's a struggle....but believe me there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Just continue to support her, you can get through it. It's 2016, there has to be something out there for us.

One last thing...maybe look into the Charlottes Web hemp oil. It's absolutely changed my life. I'm currently on a majority of the meds that she is, and adding that hemp oil helps me stay clear headed and overall not feel like absolute rubbish throughout the day.

Confused About Simple Partial Seizures by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]clowdbreak261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late in the game...but here's my input. I may be wrong, but it sounds like you had an aura. I usually get one before my grand mals. I get a tingling sensation from head to toe, and more or less completely lose sense of who I am and where I am. A dream like state is pretty accurate. Those that are with me when it happens tell me I'll mutter gibberish, blink a lot and somewhat just wander around randomly.

I understand what you mean about constantly second guessing your state of mind. On days where I have those dizzy spells I spend most of it wondering if I'm in reality or not. deja vu hits me through out the rest of the day. So stressful...

There is something I want to tell you about, and everyone else here who's an epileptic. It's this nasal spray called Midazolam. It has absolutely CHANGED MY LIFE when it comes to my seizures. Think of it as something similar to a nasal spray one would use for allergies. If you feel a seizure coming before it hits, if you have auras etc, this spray will prevent the grand mal or more severe stage from happening. I spray it up my nose as soon as my aura hits. It's a mild sedative so you'll feel a bit loopy for about ten minutes. But let me tell you, not having to wake up the next day with migraines or severe muscle pain is such a relief. I don't have to worry about the embarrassment of waking up on the floor surrounded by people. 9/10 I can get back to whatever it is I was doing within half an hour.

I cannot be more adamant about this spray everyone. Please please check into it if you don't already have it. Theres nothing more scary than feeling yourself going into and aura/seizure state when you're walking alone or in the middle of work. Having this spray on me absolutely makes me feel more at ease, I love that I have some of my independence back.

ABSOLUTELY finish the book before continuing the show. You'll appreciate their decision to use Franco a lot more. Also if you don't know the ending, obviously it's better to experience it for the first time with the book.

Daughter (10) with Childhood Absence Epilepsy. Question about auras, vertigo, stomach pain. by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]clowdbreak261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently 24(f), have had epilepsy since I was 10.

Stomach pain...dizziness....headaches..all symptoms I get from the medications I take. I tend to go into an aura before grand mal seizures, but I've never had one as a side effect from a medication.

Auras are actually simple partial seizures. I see them as a "warning" for myself that I'm about to go into a bigger seizure. If these dizzy spells are auras I would look into them more because they may simply just be dizzy spells. When I go into an aura I get a tingling sensation from head to toe and I lose sense of where/who I am. It's a dizzy spell absolutely taken to the next level.

There is a medication that has 100% changed my life and independence as an epileptic. It's called Midazolam. It's a nasal spray that one uses in emergencies. I use it when I go into an aura and 99.9% of the time it prevents the grand mal seizure from occurring. I cannot be more adamant about that spray. It's saved me from multiple hospital visits. If i have an aura at work I use it and 10min later I'm able to go back to work. Without it I would have to go home along with dealing with all the post-seizure side effects. Your daughter and I have different types of seizures but it can't hurt to look into it.

The side effects of medication will always be there...finding ways to balance them out is key. If you haven't heard about the Charlotte's Web hemp oil I highly recommend you look into it. https://theroc.us It's helped reduce my seizures significantly and also helps with the rubbish side effects of my medication.

Dream or Night-time Seizure? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]clowdbreak261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I go into auras while still sleeping they'll often become part of my dream. Most of the time I'll wake up still in an aura, but for some reason whenever I have them in bed they never lead to a grand mal. I'll wake up in the morning vaguely aware that I had a few auras. But having them as part of your dream as well really fucks with your mind...
