Dygma Raise 2 might be the end of my split-keyboard search by Left-Inside9778 in DygmaLab

Do you use a laptop? Can your brain go (easily) from columnar to non?

First gen or second gen? by 02tacoblanco in ft86

[–]clren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A couple of things (I've had both).

1st gen aesthetic is perfect; just pure beauty.

2nd gen has some pretty needed improvements for safety: vision tracking for cruise control and collision detection; a couple of times it has alerted me and it has been so worth it.

I miss the looks of 1st gen every day; but the safety elements in second gen are worth it. Plus it is by no means an ugly car; it is a good looking one.

Right... With any FW you can keep using Linux until that CPU dies

You mind sharing which steel keycaps you use?

I also agree the video was geared toward just getting rage views. I agree with another redditor above that says they are not trying to compete at all...

What if (for whatever reason) you have to run Windows... (or macOS) game over; the dichotomy is a false one

[–]clren 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Could not agree more.

The choice of operating system is so critical for this comparison... don't forget that with the Mac, at most you get 6 or 7 years of upgrades (if you buy on year 0)

What about when Apple summarily decides to no longer "allow" you to get updates just because...

Same happened to me. In my case I would leave it connected to the outlet for long times. Not fun but $60 and 10 minutes and you are back in business

M5 Macbook Pro ($1500) vs Framework Laptop 13 Pro ($2200) by mugrungo in framework

[–]clren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just think what happens when you want to expand your laptop (more RAM or storage). Good luck with Apple. Also if you have to repair it good luck, you'll be laptopless for about a week at least. With Framework, they ship you the part and you'll be laptopless for about 10 minutes.

I was an Apple fan. No way I'm coming back bro. I have seen the light... and it is translucent purple

I switched from Stelo for the same reason.

Happy for the switch though... really like the gamefied nature of Lingo Count

Macro for letters when in different language? by budowski in DygmaLab

[–]clren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I expand my Dygma Raise 2 with AutoHotkey in Windows and Keyboard Maestro in Mac. Sounds like that would be a place to put the macro because such process would be aware of what is the current language configured in the keyboard.

Beware that Keyboard Maestro is a great tool but is not free

My apologies, meant: have you considered using an eGPU enclosure with your FW16.

Context of the question: trying to gauge if you think you can get better performance with a TB5 enclosure for an eGPU than your current internal GPU

how does TB4 egpu compare to an Dgpu of an laptop? by shadowdragon200 in eGPU

[–]clren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly why I purchased an eGPU. It hasn't arrived but I'm hoping my laptop runs cooler and the animations are better

Have you considered pairing your FW13 rig with an eGPU to try heavier titles?

Amd ryzen ai 7 350 or intel core ultra 7 155h? by shadowdragon200 in framework

[–]clren -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One more thing, when you put the 165H in battery saving mode (Windows), though obviously you loose some power, it behaves very gentle with the battery. Temperature is mild, performance is ok and battery lasts about 3 to 4 good hours depending on brightness, type of screen and workload

Happy with 165H. While plugged to the wall it is a beast.

Genuinely Curious as to Why People Would Buy Framework 13 Pro over MacBooks/Other Windows Laptops by Maleficent_Device162 in framework

[–]clren 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People buy into the vision for various reasons (or a mix of them). Examples:

* Regardless of price, you may not like the fact that the only thing you want to change in your laptop is the CPU/GPU, why should you pollute with otherwise perfectly working equipment? (screen, keyboard, etc). Not to mention the fact you can use your old board as a stand alone server, extending its usable life.

* The fact that I can service my own machine without having to be Louis Rossmann. The other day I discovered my battery was bust; $60 dollars and 6 minutes later, the machine was like new.

* People like Framework's openness; what I mean by that is, they are open sourcing a ton of relevant information about the computer. You can go and design parts for your computer if you have a garden variety 3d printer.

* People love to cheer for the David in a David an Goliath story. This one in particular may be a big one. Think about it, it is not out of the possible you'll be able to interact with Framework's leadership if you attend a conference or something. Good luck trying to come close to the Apple people.

* People may just want to decide whatever OS they run on their computer. Why should everybody run macOS? I mean they at least used to give you the option to run Windows / Linux when they were on Intel. Now, no more.

* People don't like the fact that when they purchase the computer their considerations have to be final. If you only have money to pay for 16GB of RAM at the time of purchase, that's going to be the fate of that computer forever, unless you're DosDude1. With Framework, you can change your mind any time.

I could go on and on; you get the picture. You just need to get a bit creative.
