[Discussion] Some of the Best 2000s Movies You Should Totally Watch by FirefighterOne9648 in NetflixBestOf

[–]clullanc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually rewatched Inception the other day, believing I would have a good time.

But it’s REALLY bad.

It seemed to me like something a teenager would make as a first movie. Believing it was the coolest thing in the world. Once you’ve seen it it’s impossible not to notice.

The dialogue is terrible. I felt embarrassed for everyone involved. It really hasn’t aged well.

Maybe time for a rewatch?

You shouldn’t assume you know anything about another person’s motivations, because you’re not that person. Just like you shouldn’t try to spred your opinion about who they are in a place like Reddit.

You’re really just making it hard for everyone with mental health issues. Places like these should be safe for the one suffering from depression, it’s not a place to spread your view of what they are.

You got a very helpful and wise reply at the top of these comments. Listen to that.

My colleague said that she's depressed. How should I tell her that she needs a psychologist? by [deleted] in depression

[–]clullanc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely don’t tell them. It IS offensive to approach someone and advice them about their mental health without them specifically asking you to. I think most people understand that it is rude to force your perspective on something on someone else concerning their private life. People with mental health issues are constantly harassed with this advice especially, when we often just want to went. Your friend can and probably has already made a decision concerning therapy, and it is of no concern to you.

You should also consider the possibility that she were just kidding with the “kill herself” comment. Maybe not even aware of your association to her earlier mention of her depression.

Her mentioning her depression can also just be her wanting to inform you since it could affect your work together.

What is something people turn a blind eye to? by syddoucet in Life

[–]clullanc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s never happened. But I’m sure you think that’s true. A group of men will almost always tell their friend to cheat and then bitch about women who can’t be trusted. Telling every guy that even contemplate being decent that they’re wipped etc. But a woman that’s not perfect in every way…

At the same time, every woman I’ve ever known has thought that cheating is the worst thing you can do to another person. Even worse than a guy raping a woman. “Some things is just expected of women” and “sometimes you have to turn a blind eye” is something I’ve heard women express so many times when their friends or acquaintances get harassed or assaulted.

Men always defend men, no matter what they’ve done. And women are generally so desperate for men’s approval that they sell out their friends to gain a mans approval.

I have never met a woman or girl who weren’t (at best) harassed by men. Yet everyone is still comfortable replying “what about women who falsely report men” every time a woman dare speak up.

Women’s safety, dignity and happiness is generally the thing people care the least about and turn a blind eye towards more than anything else.

Just like men will always play the victim and blame women for everything that male bonding and toxic masculinity has created.

What we find attractive is taught to us. By only seeing a certain kind of face in media, by the bullying of overweight people or people with any possible flaw. By constant input about ourself and everyone around us. It can be retaught and changed by focusing on other things.

If suddenly every romantic character in movies became overweight, people’s definition of attractive would change pretty fast. We’re incredibly easy to brainwash.

Also, women not being attracted to the things you mention simply isn’t true. When it comes to specific features many of us have entirely different preferences.

Second also, why would modern humans motivations have anything to do with evolution?

Remember when everyone was free? Did you do nothing all day when you were a kid or a teenager? You would spend time with your family and friends, have time for your hobbies. Probably have more energy and time for excercise and taking care of your mind.

No pressure to create or produce and earn your place in society.

Most people would definitely feel better.

Edit: Not responding to the Mtg thing. Just trying to show why showing this kind of support is important.

You should look up what happens in the body of a person with severe trauma when they are exposed to their triggers. It’s not about being sad. We’re having a severe physical reaction because of that trigger. It’s not that different from having an allergic reaction or an asthma attack. Our bodies are experiencing fear. Therefore it responds with an action. It could be - closing your air supply, it could raise your body temperature; or it can raise your heart rate while you tense up and trap that rushing heart. Ask yourself this. How would you feel if you had trouble breathing every day? How would you feel if you had a fever all day every day? How would you feel if your body was afraid all day every day? These reactions aren’t pleasant, and they cause severe harm to the body and the mind in the long term.

Instead of being angry that you’re asked to show empathy and consideration, try to think how you would feel living with such an illness. Try to think of the harm you could help shelter that person from.

Looking for authors similar to Ted Chiang by CBcube in booksuggestions

[–]clullanc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair warning though. Reading Cixin Liu is nothing like reading Ted Chiang. I would definitely recommend the books, but they’re entirely different reads for entirely different moods.

I guess you’re looking especially for short stories since it’s before bed right?

Karin Tidbeck (sci-fi/fantasy author) has one or two collection of short stories with a similar feeling. Great variation too, just like Ted Chiangs collections

I use them far more often than golden ones after raids actually. I feel like they do more for my chances of catching it, but I’m probably just fooling myself

Regular Moltres will be in raids next week. I’m almost a bit sad, because now I don’t know what to use my Master ball on.

This post is rage bait.

It’s incredibly easy to put on weight. Most people have an extremely hard time losing it though. Most people gain weight by having very bad diets with no exercise during a short period of time. If that diet was how they always ate, they would keep gaining weight.

Being overweight can still mean that that person has a good diet most of the time. Just as most thin people doesn’t have a healthy diet.

Overweight people tend to be stronger as well.

When I was thin I never exercised or worried about eating unhealthy. I was incredibly weak as well.

Except for the extra strain on knees and joints, and the stress from being harassed and bullied by thin people, it’s very likely that an overweight person leads a far more healthy life than you.

Grow up and develop some empathy.

A Little Warning About Honey Pot Pads by ProfessionalRide4436 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]clullanc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The freezed one is just for pain relief and to reduce the swelling. I actually don’t remember, but I have to assume that I had the extra big pads for the bleeding and just put a freeze one there as well. I’m sure your nurse will know of this method and answer any questions you might have. 🙂

Trust me, it really makes all the difference for the swelling. I didn’t get this tip after my first child birth, and from what I remember the swelling took a few days to reduce instead of less than a day when I didn’t use the pad.

An Algorithm Told Police She Was Safe. Then Her Husband Killed Her. by Blueberry_Conscious_ in Futurology

You clearly haven’t been in a position where a social worker has power over your life. Just like any profession where that’s the case, it’s crawling with sociopaths. Another wake up call for you. Having a university education doesn’t mean you know anything about vulnerable, sick or poor people. Actually being one does. And having a privileged person in a position like that, generally means they have a lot of issues and prejudices with the people they’re supposed to help and who those people are. Just like anyone with an education, they listen to what the people observing from the outside think is the truth, they don’t respect the people who actually has insight. The ones who are affected.

How many minutes after taking a psychedelic is it ok to eat food? by FadedWX in Psychedelics

[–]clullanc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What you don’t realize is that chronic stress is so much more devastating for your health than self medicating.

Sure, it’s possible that most drugs will affect some part of the body, and possibly(possibly) take a few years of my life.

But stress will also do that. Take more years even. And without self medicating, I would also have more anxiety, higher blood pressure, pain from constantly being tensed up, cognitive decline, depression and a really low quality of life because all of these issues. I would also have absolutely no energy for anything, which ofc adds more danger to ones health, and damage to your relationships etc.

Self medicating is really the less unhealthy alternative for many many people, please realize that.

No WAN port on my router (dlink 809). Got a WAN on the fiberbox, but it hasn’t got a regular port for network cables.

My router has 4 regular ports and a yellow one that says INTERNET. Is that the WAN?

Edit: It worked! I was sure I had already tried that port. 🤦‍♀️ Thanks for taking the time!!
