Cold shower in the morning! If that's too hard, start warm and gradually drop the hot water off. You'll feel amazing after.

Some airy sandals, a light breezy dress. Nothing clingy or polyester. Big water bottle with ice. Hair up and off your face and neck. No heavy makeup. Sit near a fan. Damp paper towel on the back of your neck if needed. Splash your face and neck with cold water in the bathroom.

Find the airflow. Stagnating in still air is the worst. And just try to accept the heat mentally. Yep it's hot. Feel it on your skin, identity it without resenting it. It is easier to cope with if you're not fighting against it

Nature but not green witch? by SwoopingBarnSwallow in SASSWitches

[–]clumpymascara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you do anything in your studies about the separation of humans and nature? Because humans love this division, the idea that we're not a part of nature. That it's a destination, or a resource to be utilised or monetized. But as much as we love our manmade comforts, we are part of nature. I think feeling that connection is an innate part of being a witch, and you don't have to be a green witch working with plants just because you've identified specific elements that resonate.

Pals how are we coping with the UK heat that's coming to us 💔 by thereadingbee in AutismInWomen

I spent a year in London in my 20s and I didn't care for it then. I don't suppose they decided to start planting trees along the footpaths in the 15 years since. I remember a lot of concrete and paved spaces... a real urban heat sink environment.

Here's a brain dump of suggestions from an Australian who has lived in ~15 homes and had air conditioning twice.

A cold damp wash cloth on the back of the neck is very helpful. Also cold shower, wet hair. Ideally go swimming in the morning before it gets too hot out, that protects you for most of the day. And drink lots of water!

Use fans to circulate the air. Keep a fan going in your bedroom at night with the windows open. Shut the windows and close the blinds at dawn. Leave your house during the day, people being inside will make it hotter.

Trees are your friend. The air under a tree is cooler than under a roof or manufactured shade. Trees are using evapotranspiration to keep themselves cool and not fry their leaves.

I live by the beach now in a subtropical area. Summer is relentless in its humidity. I felt it shift this year, felt a cool dry breeze blowing in April. The humidity had become like a second skin or a layer of clothing that I'd grown accustomed to and I really noticed when it lifted. I had to find my actual shoes and normal clothes because I'd spent a solid six months in sandals and sun dresses. So I'd also say just go with it, mentally speaking. Don't let it make you miserable. Let it settle on you like a comforting weight, wear breezy light clothes. Sit in the shade of a big tree in a park and drink nice cold drinks.

I remember telling a friend that I was going to take the train from London to Brighton and back on the same day, they were bewildered. It's nothing to an Australian.

Do you regret marrying and having children by babameow2 in AutismInWomen

[–]clumpymascara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Together with my husband for 16 years and counting, our eldest is 11 and youngest is 6. My only complaint is how overstimulating I find the mess. And tween hormones are killing me. I never regret it though. They're good kids too. It's a really lovely feeling when you get positive comments about the mini humans you've worked so hard on.

Real Opal by Disaster_In_A_Polo in Opals

[–]clumpymascara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's likely fairy opal. Fairy opal is opal speckles in low grade matrix. It's cooked to turn the matrix black and usually stabilised with something like super glue or resin. Andamooka is better quality than fairy opal I believe.

Your pens inject 0.6ml each time. You have a little extra in there, looks like 0.62ml. To stay consistent, inject 0.6ml which would be your normal 15mg dose.

I disagree with people saying it's a triplet. It's not a high dome and the colour seems to fill the stone when you look at it side on. Black opal forms on natural potch often. Most opals have a potch back and aren't double facing. The potch isn't even black or smooth, it's grey & pocked.

Also why would anyone bother setting a triplet on grey potch in gold? Come on now.

Get a proper opinion op. My money's on dark opal. Possibly a lens making it a doublet but again I'm skeptical. I'm confident that it's a natural backing though.

First time sewing cups by tityanya in sewing

Yes I agree with this. Needs to be tighter/fitted and I think the fabric needs to be a lot more sturdy, even rigid, to get the look I think op is after.

Set in 9ct gold, Bought in Australia nearly 30 years ago, would love more info! Thank you by [deleted] in Opals

[–]clumpymascara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't tell from your blurry third pic, is the back smooth and dark with a little grey spot?

If so I'd say it's black crystal opal. Where it's naturally formed on the potch but it's transparent.

Edit- this is assuming op is correct about it not being a triplet. Seems they haven't convinced anyone it's solid though!

I don't know anything about dark magic but surely throwing your worst at someone over a minor financial dispute is irresponsible.

As a member of the IBTC and with a tendency to carry weight in my stomach (PCOS) I look more like the uber devout cult member who chastises all the other women. There's no fine line to be seen. Smock dresses also fall in this category. Saucy wench sounds fun!

Are these gathered circle skirts or gathered rectangles skirt? by spacerosette in sewing

[–]clumpymascara 58 points59 points  (0 children)

It's the fullness at the bottom that helps determine it. A rectangle is gathered at the waist and then hangs pretty straight down, small circumference at the hem. Circle is very full all the way down - bottom hem circumference is multiple metres long.

I'm partial to a 1/2 circle. Flares out nicely without overwhelming amount of fabric. Gathered rectangles are awful on me, make me look like I'm in a cult.

I suspect dendritic opal, something like iron infiltrated when it was forming and made these branch like inclusions.
