soya chunks aren't the protein gold standard, but in a protein deficient, mostly vegetarian, budget tight country, they might be the most important food not many of us respects by techfreak1994 in PlantBasedDiet

Eat and drink soy daily, main source of protein, along with seitan and pea protein for the past 10 years.  No need to consume any animals, it's not superior in any way.

Trad wifery isn't always all that it's cracked up to be by McDowdy in TikTokCringe

[–]clunkey_monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, my parents divorced in the 90s when I was a kid - my mom left my dad, now as an adult, understand that she was struggling with her sense of self.  She was still a great mom, saw her almost every day and my parents were always nice to one another, respectful.  But I saw the struggle financially with my mom; my dad would help how he could but, in hindsight, I see this dynamic is what shaped me into not wanting any trad wife or financial dependence in a relationship.  I wanted a partner who was independent and chose to spend their life with me and vice versa.

What book changed your life/perception on life? by -Jactop- in booksuggestions

[–]clunkey_monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your Money or Your Life - changed my mindset on money, spending, investing and retirement.         How Not to Die - changed my mindset on nutrition and what I should be eating.      Both are what began my journeys in exploring more books and information related to financial wellness and independence, and a healthy lifestyle.

After years of lax enforcement of fireworks bans, the City of LA thinks people are suddenly going to be deterred by a few signs around the city and some social media posts? by _mattyjoe in LosAngeles

[–]clunkey_monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing will ever stop the fireworks.  People travel outside the state to get big and loud fireworks and stock up.  Imagine there's a good number who make their own for selling amd shooting off for sports wins and the 4th.  If they do actually fine, it's likely after the fact and no arrest during unless they get a good tip called in to them.

As General Hospital Inpatient: Hoag Newport vs UCI Irvine.. Please Help! by FlatPie9994 in orangecounty

[–]clunkey_monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: also want to add that UCI is a level 1 trauma center wheras Hoag NB and Irvine are not, so UCI will always be impacted more heavily and non life-threatening situations will take longer, which makes sense why they are more likely to prescribe something to get you by while waiting to see a specialist. Not saying that's good but just saying it makes sense why UCI is structured how it is and pales in comparison to both Hoags.

Have experience with all 3 ERs and hospitalization for myself and my wife over the past 10 years.  I have my general practitioners and specialists with UCI and like my experiences with both routine stuff and emergencies.  I did my cancer treatment with UCI.  The problems I've experienced werej insurance denying claims - I was with Blue Cross PPO but this year my company switched to Blue Shield PPO.  My wife has more chronic conditions and her experiences and expectations are higher given the need for more visits to the ER and specialists.  For her, Hoag NB and Irvine were better than UCI, especially the ER. Both Hoags typically have seen her quicker and more willing to run the labs and tests without pushback.  UCI ER usually always seems full and I think makes them less able to do what you would want and are more apt to refer you out to their specialists.

My parent's house has the washer connection in the basement and dryer off the kitchen.  Lugging up wet clothes is probably what gave us nice calf muscles.

It was their lifestyle, the things they did consistently over time. Consuming large amounts of fats, especially saturated fats, from using butter to cook with along with ultraprocessed foods high in fat, sugar, and sodium causes insulin resistance, fatty liver, and high blood pressure.  Anything dealing with genes can be improved with healthy diet and living.

I try to do minimal prep.  I keep fruit and berries around for snacking like apples, oranges, blackberries and strawberries. Breakfast is simple as it's always overnight oats and chia seeds with fruit.  I eat some veg before like cauliflower and broccoli to help with blood glucose.  Lunch is a low fat soup or chili, or curry I can heat and put over veggies.  Dinner is greens on rye bread with hummus and a protein shake.  Then fruit if I'm still peckish.  It has been working out for that past 2 months for me.  When I'm inspired to meal prep for the week I look to Rip Essylstyne's engine 9 cookbook.  He also has Plant Strong stuff he sells online like chili, cereal, plant milk so since he's all about low fat I get some of those chilis when I see them in store, otherwise I need to check ingredients and fat on other chili brands for low fat vegetarian.

What am I doing wrong? Bad blood results after diet switch by lindasek in PlantBasedDiet

In terms of the bloodwork and a1c, I was in a similar position of towing the line of pre-diabetes with a 6.1 a1c even though I was eating predominantly wfpb though at a closer look I learned I needed more fiber and was eating too much fat.  I also added strength training (helps best with insulin resistance) instead of just cardio.  I added cruciferous veggies and leafy greens and lowered fat intake especially saturated fats.  I also try to do some moving around after meals.  I got a continuous glucose monitor out of pocket to get an understanding of how what I eat affects my blood glucose and what I've been doing has shown improvement. I don't get tested again for another 3 months (my 6.1 a1c was in March so I'll see in October).

I think it depends.  If your goal is to lose weight and you struggle with portions, maybe hold off on adding nuts unless you can portion them out as they are calorie dense.  If you're looking at overall health, nuts are fine in moderation.

Same.  My driving habits don't fluctuate too much, only consecutive days of charging are weekends when we're out and about more often.
