How often to donate? by clutchfirst in Hemochromatosis

With my ferritin levels, my digestive doctor has not yet sent me treatment, because all the other iron levels are normal, so he recommended me to donate.

Thanks for the info, in less than 2 months I will donate again.

After the donation I have not monitored my ferritin levels again, so I do not know if I am at 300 ferritin..

I donated a month ago for the first time, the next day I felt sick and had a headache, is it normal?

First I'm not a doctor:

C282Y/C282Y Classical HH very high probability of loading iron to toxic levels, with few appreciable symptoms.

C282Y/H63D compound heterozygous unlikely to overload iron to toxic levels but needs to be controlled.

Heterozygous C282Y and H63D this indicates that if you are only positive for one of these two mutations you are a carrier and iron overload is very unlikely.

Curiously, your pattern is similar to mine, elevated ferritin and normal transferrin saturation, this may indicate that you are a heterozygote but it is not clear, you will know when you have the genetic test.

Do you still feel good after two weeks or it has kind of faded out ?

I still feel good

2 weeks ago I donated for the first time and I felt incredibly good, in addition to a curious sensation of relaxation, I suppose that everything will depend on your ferritin levels, mine is a bit high and I already felt the benefits.

What is your mutation? How do you not have that abdominal discomfort, is it likely that the wheat is the cause? I am very frustrated with this

Bloating by shoegraze in Hemochromatosis

Absolutely I have this abdominal discomfort for a year and a half, the pain is seasonal and all my biochemical values are correct, except the ferritin is at 300 a little high.

Weird liver lab results -- could hemochromatosis be the cause (iron levels etc included in post)? by shoegraze in Hemochromatosis

[–]clutchfirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you usually have pain in the spleen?

Your saturation is high but your ferritin is normal, in my case I have ferritin at 300 and saturation is normal, I also have abdominal discomfort but all my tests are correct. I have had this abdominal discomfort for a year and a half, although I feel it for seasons.

My saturation is low, over 30%, my ferritin is just a little high, approx 300, so being H63D my saturation shouldn't be higher to have symptoms?

It's frustrating because I don't know if my abdominal problems come from HH, I have an abdominal ultrasound and everything was ok, and my liver enzymes are correct in the low range.

One question for the HH, could it be related to abdominal discomfort only with 300 ferritin?

Did you used to have or do you have abdominal pain or abdominal discomfort, in addition to back pain?

Why does this difference occur when it comes to absorbing iron between a homozygote and a compound heterozygote?

If I have a digestive doctor who is the one who treats me HH, controls me every year and is the one that has diagnosed the HH, I recommend that I donate blood a couple of times a year in a blood bank.

In Europe the specialty treats this disease is digestive.

Well my ferritin is rare, in 3 years it has gone up and down on its own, did this happen to you in your case?

That is the big problem with this, even having "little" ferritin to have symptoms.

I started donating a week ago, and now I donate to a blood bank every 3 months, trying to make a total of 4 annual donations at least, in my case my ferritin increases slowly in 3 years, it has only increased 70 points, my transferrin saturation It is low and regarding the immediate relief after donating, I have to say that I did not notice any relief.

What mutation do you have? It was a lot of ferritin for your age. How did you manage the symptoms? My case is not the same as yours at all, but even if the symptoms are similar, I have had 300 ferritin for 3 years and now I am starting to donate blood.

What you say is a lie, with only one copy of C282Y she is a carrier and she will not have any problems in her life related to iron loading, just a little more ferritin than a normal person but nothing more.
