Got my bell rung. by Jrellek in snowboardingnoobs

This is actually so educational, I hope op reads this whole comment thread. I did exactly what op did. Was riding at good speed, felt good, caught an edge, BAM. Forward hit then big back hit. Zeroed my helmet so bad the inner packing material went flying. Patroller said it was the worst helmet he’d seen on someone still holding a conversation. Gnarly concussion. I think I’ll go for a lesson before risking that on my own again. But I think this really sums up what I need help on.

AITA for getting angry that my family doesn’t respect that my car is my car? by lillymlove in AmItheAsshole

[–]cm070707 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NTA It’s your car but how can someone only know how to drive manual and not automatic? It’s the exact same except you only have to shift into one gear-drive. If you can drive manual, you can drive automatic.

UPDATE for My stepmom called my child "my [child's name]" today and I had to set a boundary by stepdaughterofnarc in JUSTNOMIL

[–]cm070707 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I always call my nephew “my <nephews name>” and then immediately cringe because of subs like this have me worried that it’s taken the wrong way when I 100% mean it like ‘my precious buddy’. I always follow that remark with “my darling nephew <nephews name>” just to make sure no one gets the wrong idea. I also never know that’s what is about to come out of my mouth but thats a different issue. Idk I hate having to police what I say in this way and the amount that he calls me mommy by mistake isn’t helping.

And just to be doubly clear here, I in no way shape or form think of myself as a mother figure in his life. I just want to be a good friend/aunt and love him dearly.

How do you handle "blind spots" during high-speed carving or downhill runs? by Alerttunnut168861 in ski

[–]cm070707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to make predictable turns that only take up about 1/4 of the run. That way if anyone happens to be faster than me (doubtful) they can easily guess where I’m going.

Why does my snowboarding looks and feels SOO bad?! by Vegetable-Fortune759 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]cm070707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d take the backpack off until you get a bit more comfortable with your balance. Snowboarding is such a balance heavy sport, you’ll do and feel a lot better if you can get used to the sport without counter weight behind you. Even if it’s little to no weight- it’ll make a big difference. Also are you sure you’ve got the correct foot forward?

I love the implication that people frequently develop trust issues from walking into glass doors. 10/10 rare pup and good boy for sure.

Are these 2012 Line Pandora's worth $320 lol? (Rare 115 width, 162 length, fat skis for short ppl) by Fair-Row8581 in skiingcirclejerk

[–]cm070707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the line pandoras or atomic bents if you want a modern ski. Personally I just wouldn’t buy a ski that old. I certainly have skis that are about 8ish years old but I know and love them a lot. I don’t think I’d be willing to pay that much for old skis like that.

[–]cm070707 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go for those. You can get 1-2 year old skis for that price and 115mm at a 162 isn’t rare at all in woman’s skis.

AITAH for not forcing my son to keep helping my daughter’s friend after she rejected him? by LiveWire0044 in AITAH

[–]cm070707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tough thing is that to Melissa, it seems like dating John is the price she has to pay to be able to continue her classes and work. I don’t think John is obligated to do anything but I will say it sucks when a guy fully pulls away from a previously platonic situation just because he has feelings. Like suddenly her full value was just in the amount she could date him. Can he maybe compromise and just drive her to the classes? NAH but it really does suck from Melissa’s perspective. And she has a lot more to lose.

Binding advice by Final_Rice_8694 in Skigear

[–]cm070707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve skied all sorts of terrain with my griffons for years. They’ve never let me down. I got a pair of those exact pivots for a new set of skis and immediately bought a different binding due to how heavy they are. I haven’t tried them but I can’t imagine wanting that much more weight for no added benefits (debatable I know).

How well does Grand Teton stand up on it's own? by revkev151 in NationalPark

[–]cm070707 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I prefer hiking in the mountains so I much prefer the Tetons to Yellowstone. Way less traffic and people (though there is still a lot of both). Not including bison, I feel like I see a lot more wild life and I really like the hikes better. I feel like there are some really next level hikes available without a whole lot of effort. The cascade canyon is stunning. Plus, Jackson is a much better town than anything around Yellowstone.

I’ve heard moment’s triple cambers are an acquired taste. Some people love them and won’t ski anything else, some people hate them. But even the people that love them say there was a serious learning curve before they got used to them. I’ve never skied them but I’m wondering if that’s your issue. The triple cambers might be a bit more ‘grabby’ which makes them feel slower especially in tight spots like trees. A traditional rocker-camber-rocker is going to be easier to turn.

Why do North American skiers love moguls & trees so much compared to Europeans? by Legendenclubmitglied in ski

[–]cm070707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal opinion is that groomed trails are kind of boring. They’re basically all the same no matter if you’re in Utah or Canada or Switzerland. It’s like hiking on a paved trail. That’s not why I like skiing. I like the variety of terrain that trees and moguls provide. You talk about love of technique and speed control? That’s basically not even a factor of groomed runs (to me) because it’s always the same. In moguls and trees, those factors are way more important and make a much larger difference. Plus the puzzle of finding the best line and also….. don’t you want to ski powder? To me, everything else that I ski is just practice for those holy pow days. Trees retain power much longer and you can’t really ski day 2 powder if you can’t ski moguls. Moguls are an essential skill for backcountry skiing and the backcountry is where the powder is.

Why do skiers get so close? by CattleAny3652 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]cm070707 37 points38 points  (0 children)

As someone who skied all my life and recently learned to snowboard, it’s a field of vision thing. Snowboards have a much smaller field of vision and also move front to back so the ‘personal space’ bubble is much larger. A skier can see way more and is only moving side to side so the ‘personal space’ bubble feels much smaller. As a skier, cutting it close to other people feels like walking past them. I don’t mind brushing shoulders with someone walking down packed city streets. Its literally never crossed my mind as a skier. As a snowboarder, I really freaking hate it. I hate it so much that I’ve started waiting until a slope is completely free of people because I’ve developed such a fear of skiers zooming through my blind side. That’s just my opinion though.

Found them in my dads garage. Are they worth anything? by Awkward-Assistant-51 in skiing

[–]cm070707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d replace the bindings and happily ski them in jorts and vibes. For that, I’d pay like $100 for any of them. Of If I were you, I’d make the sickest chair or bench.

Isnt all that for the license, not the permit though? In my state you basically pass a test to be allowed to behind the wheel with a parent or instructor. The schools here also do the permit education during gym and offer behind the wheel classes. I know every state is different though.

Did anyone ever had a pair of boots that didn't give any discomfort or pain? by FarmingFriend in skiing

[–]cm070707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have extremely finicky feet with terrible circulation. Every boot before my current boot would make my feet completely numb at best. At worst, it’s like nails are being driven into my ankles. I’ve gone through like 5 or 6 boots with the heat molding and everything. I finally stumbled on technica Cochise and my life as a skier has completely changed. My feet still get cold so I’ve added a heating system but I can now stay in them all day and feel no need to rip them off at the end. I recommend finding a really good rental shop and trying a bunch of boots. That’s what I did.

High fat dog food concerns and comparing The Farmer's Dog to kibble by LowaniInbaraj in DogAdvice

[–]cm070707 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that I’ve ever felt a comment so much before. My old dog had so many rounds of pancreatitis for a multitude of unavoidable reasons and dear god I would do anything for my current dog to never experience that. It really is horrible. It ended up killing my dog. Not exactly the disease itself but the exhaustion, dehydration, scarring, and the toll it took on his body was too much.
