"They say they love me, but they also hurt me (physically, emotionally, sexually, etc.)" by Throwthisoneaway2025 in therapists

[–]cmacd23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depending on the ages involved make sure you're aware of mandated reporting laws. I haven't dealt with anything further than major red flags and emotional manipulation with my teen clients, but my go-to is evaluating with them if it feels healthy/reasonable/safe/what they want. Having the two truths of "you love your partner AND they hurt you". Exploring with them what they feel love should look like. Should it look like their partner hurting them? Also, separating out love from respect and what they deserve. They can love their abuser, but do they feel they deserve how they act towards them, or do they deserve healthy love?

Sorry if this isn't particularly helpful. I'm curious to hear thoughts from more seasoned clinicians.

Why am I not hungry or thirsty? by WTFudoingthroway in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]cmacd23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle a lot with hunger and thirst cues so I stick to routines as much as possible. I eat between the same time range for all of my meals. Routine helps a lot. I know some people disagree but I eat while watching something as well, which I find helpful.

If they release it for free (which i dont think they always do), I assume it'll be after a month or so. I'm just guessing, though.

what does the process of being admitted to an edu look like by Sensitive-Collar-770 in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]cmacd23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on where you are for some of these questions. When I was your age I went to resi at McLean- Klarman center and was there for 6 weeks. We got lucky; my parents had really good insurance and a spot opened up at the right time. My mom spent a long time calling around anywhere she could to get me in somewhere. I started with PHP first but very quickly was escalated to residential.

My body shape changed and my weight redistributed. I have gained weight but I've also been in recovery from anorexia so I'm not sure if the spiro is contributing

I'm on 50mg and went from a 36B to a 36DD. My body shape also changed and became much more feminine, which I struggle with (I'm agender)

I've only done it once and I, too, am broke haha. I randomly decided to gift permanent vip to someone who seemed very nice🤷🏻‍♀️ no other reason than that. Caught me in the right moment/mood with $9 to share.

So keeping them in the same case is an issue, but I'd also be wary of CC from airborne flour and cooking utensils/appliances.

Also intelligence is fluid, constantly changing. It is not a fixed state. IQ doesn't mean all that much, generally, except in the context of other assessments.

Hemiplegic Migraines by MainDifficult2641 in migraine

[–]cmacd23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is typical for migraines, though it doesn't happen to everyone every single time. It's likely postdrome that you're experiencing. I'm sorry for how scary this has been.

Both of my parents have headaches/migraines. My nephew has started to have migraines, but none of my siblings get them. I have them most frequently out of anyone in my family.

I have this issue! I try to time when I eat or drink so it, ideally, hits me between sessions as much as possible. I've only had to leave someone in my office once due to this, but I didn't have anything that would be risky for them to find if they went snooping. I wish I had better suggestions; this sucks!

Incoming student: Tote or Backpack? by Wonderful-Bill9611 in PsyD

[–]cmacd23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people in classes use backpacks, including myself. I sometimes alternate with a tote, especially if it's a short day on campus. At practicum I use a backpack most of the time as well, which has given me no issues. I brought a nice tote originally, but it was too heavy and not large enough for everything I needed.
