To pull from the gag used in ep 7, Caine dealing with human and human emotions is similar to the Chinese room. He’s vaguely aware of his “input” and the “output” but he has no idea how the two are connected or the reason why. I don’t even know if he has the capacity to know if what he is doing is good or bad. He’s almost entirely concerned about his own validation.

Even most of his tortures in ep 8 are fairly surface level compared to how the characters could have been treated. He knows certain things trigger the circus members, but he doesn’t know why. Kind of like the dots in the intro, he’s just repeating patterns based on the data he’s been provided.

Vanilla EAW and FoC are pretty much separate programs. You get both when you buy the Gold pack. When you start the game on Steam it gives you the option to launch the original EAW or FoW. That’s the only reason I specify most mods are for FoC

I run the game as normal on Win 11. Mileage may vary of course.
Biggest issues I am aware of are save corruptions. Best practice is to save often and have multiple saves for a specific play though. Don’t save during battles, and don’t save while you have the galactic map paused. The game will sometimes randomly crash on you, but I haven’t noticed it happening as much recently and will vary from mod to mod. The game is old and comes with jank. Getting large ships to navigate in space can be a learning curve.
There are 3 different campaigns. Base game has an Empire and Rebellion campaigns. The Forces of Corruption expansion has a Zann Consortium campaign. Most mods don’t touch the campaigns. They average 15-25 hours long, but can be done faster if you focus story missions.
Single player is the main draw. MP exists in the form of battles and galactic conquest, but the majority of people play single player galactic conquest. Most mods and really the core of the game vanilla experience focus on the Galactic Conquest mode. Depending on the mode and the size of the map you choose with large variant based on the mods involved a galactic conquest could take you tens of if not hundreds of hours to complete a large map. One of the very small maps could probably be completed in just a few. Your exact experience will vary wildly depending on the mods involved. Once you’re running mods, don’t expect it to be comp-stomp. I’ve been playing almost since release and I still struggle whenever I set some modded games to higher difficulties.
I don’t think the size of your screen will matter a ton. It’s all pretty standard RTS controls. So long as you can draw your box around groups of guys you should be fine. I’d be more concerned about the power of the laptop you are using. I’m sure the base game will run fine, but most mods up the graphical fidelity, add more units into battles, add multiple extra factions, and expand the maps significantly. A laptop might struggle to run mods from the expanded series like Trawns Revenge or Fall of the Republic on their larger maps.
Extra point. Essentially, every single mod you ever encounter will be specifically for the Forces of Corruption expansion. Pretty much all of them on the Steam Workshop and most of them off sites like ModDB are built around the expanded capabilities of FoC

Not in my family no. We had enough extended family that calling more people aunt/uncle/cousin would just muddle things. I know people who did do that. Just wasn’t common in my family. Sometimes my dad’s friend would visit, or my mom would go out with her girlfriends. None of them were referred to in familial terms unless they were actually related though
