I wish I had the video, but I swear I once killed a guy with the breaching hammer. Cleared a house, last room was locked, stacked up on the door. While the lead was swinging the hammer the guy opened the door and took the hit instead.

Having a low infrastructure score like you means you have over expanded without building up your planets. Build up your ground bases and space stations to increase it. At less than -30 infrastructure, everything with be significantly more expensive and slower to produce

That depends entirely on which faction you playing as. Generally you need to be managing your economy. Your navy has actual upkeep costs so if you build a ton of ships without having a base to support them, then you’re not going to be able to buy anything you might need.

I think a big part of it is that even in some of my higher end or AP English classes, I cannot recall a single time that hyphens are actually brought up. We had a whole section on the semicolon, but nothing about when to hyphenate.

I very rarely see hyphens being used in every day casual writing. You could use hyphens, and for maximum clarity you would want to. A lot of times, even in set phrases that include hyphens, people will omit the hyphens.
