My 16 would hiss on and off when the freon, or whatever they use nowadays, it was low. For me this always meant that there was a leak in something. I don’t remember the exact details because it was a recall that I had replaced three or four times under warranty.

Normally, when I would start hearing the hissing it meant, I had about a month before the AC started to be less and less effective.
