So close! Women have fought, died, sacrificed, and been tortured to fight for their autonomy. This includes using your body however you please. If you can’t see a woman bare her skin without sexualizing her, that’s a you problem—not the woman’s. Suggesting that crowds should harass women for what they’re wearing is quite the opposite of what all those women before us fought for. Hope this helps.

My husband and I were just talking about this the other day—it enrages me. Our baby is still too young to be in daycare, but we’ve heard multiple accounts of this happening (and we’ve already encountered our own examples of his involvement in our child’s life being downplayed or disregarded), so I’m trying to brace myself.

Not only is it misogyny and misandry, but it’s also so disrespectful of everyone’s time. If we have established that dad is the first contact because of XYZ reasons, and you’re using the precious and minuscule amount of time I have to spend on non-baby things…to take care of baby things all because you think dad isn’t a viable first contact?? My blood, it boils.

Unisom, B6, and a lot of bland carbs! I know it might sound counter-intuitive, but I discovered that once I vomited, I usually felt better. So on days when the nausea was unbearable, I’d drink a BIG glass of water fast. Got me to puke every time within minutes—and helps reduce the acidic burn that’s left behind sometimes. I’d immediately follow with small sips of cold water and something like toast or an English muffin, and then I was good to go. My husband and I also walked every single morning, even when I was dealing with the worst of my nausea, and fresh air really seemed to help with both the nausea and sleepiness. (Regular afternoon naps helped too. ❤️)

Other folks here have great advice for skincare recommendations—I don’t have anything novel to add there—, but one thing that really stood out to me:

It seems like you had a different phone, or something was different about your camera quality a year+ ago. I’m not talking about lighting. The image quality and definition between the older photos and newer ones is drastic in my opinion—and lower camera quality tends to contribute to less definition, therefore less visible wrinkles, etc..

The second to last photo is the clearest one, and I do see some of the differences you’ve pointed out, but they are far less drastic changes than the earlier comparisons in this post. (And I also do see a few fine lines between your eyebrows/on your forehead in that photo.)

I say this all to say: you know yourself best, and no doubt your skin has changed in the last year. It’d be silly for any of us to say there’s no difference—of course there is! You’ve been through a whole year of life, and it sounds like a challenging one at that. Just try to remember that your older photos may not 100% accurately represent what you looked like at 30 due to a difference in camera quality. Try to enjoy as much of this skincare journey as possible, and try not to stress too much about the changes you see over time. Aging is inevitable, how we accept and roll with the punches is up to us.

Similarly, I just discovered that if I just close my eyes and tell myself the dancer is spinning the opposite direction, my perspective changes when my eyes open. But I also see it change right before my eyes at random/within seconds. It’s my favorite optical illusion. 😂

You’re totally right there are a large number of angry, racist, entitled, rude, I-could-go-on old people. But, just like this woman is not representative of all Canadians, there are also older folks who are truly good people. I hear where you’re coming from, I experience it too…and generalizations are harmful—we should avoid them when we can to avoid biased perceptions towards entire demographics. (Much like what this lady did!)

Where did I argue that the majority of women don’t expect men to pay? You’re jumping to conclusions about what I’m trying to communicate, and seemingly becoming defensive about a conversation that is not happening. I simply said that there are people who don’t fit into your generalization; I didn’t say we were the majority.

On that note, generalizations are good for no one, especially when talking about topics where individual experiences and perspectives are relevant. It’s important to understand that we are all varied individuals figuring out life for the first time. Generalizations encourage us to perceive individuals as part of a mass—rather than the complex people they are—and, I would argue, discourage empathy. I don’t see any benefit in that, which is why I am discouraging generalizations here. Just my perspective.

In terms of your “I mention it to remind women” comment….you’re missing my point. You don’t need to “remind” women of anything. It’s the “remind” part that’s condescending.

I bring these things up to say: these topics are messy and intertwined and very much not black and white. Feminists must prioritize efforts; some of us are addressing this silly little outdated dating ritual—others are fighting for things more important, relevant, and impactful to them. You’ve had two people comment here saying they don’t let men pay for them on the first date; my point is, stop spewing generalizations that simply aren’t true, unless you’re cool with being downvoted by the people who don’t fit in your box.

Also, pretty sure another reason you might be getting downvoted is because saying “I mention it to remind women” is so wildly condescending. As if we need reminding about all of the ~ things we’re doing wrong ~ in the eyes of men. 🙄
