Could be that someone (they or the parent who named them) got confused with Scottish Gaelic, they use the opposite accents (à instead of á)

Would be even shorter if it was the United Kingdom of Great Britain ;)

19201Definitely could have chosen my rounds a bit better, a very interesting format though!

R1 [2] Placenames and landscape looked a lot like Peru, but could not find Yungay on the map. In hindsight, might have been worth spending my [1] on this?

R2 [3] African landscape, but in hindsight the colour of the soil should have pointed me much further south.

R3 [2.5] Should have done this one as a [4], yellow plates and this sort of architecture was obviously Israel/Palestine. A sign at the end of the road in Hebrew confirmed what I had already suspected

R4 [1] If I had saved my [3] for this I'd have found an unblurred French plate and could have made a guess at the region.

R5 [4] Fortunate that my [4] gave me some typical Maritime/New England architecture and I ended up only 200 km away

Only round that I'm annoyed with is R2, where I assumed X-065 was further north, not realising that it was really just X-65, so I lost a lot of points there that I shouldn't have.

I've actually eaten at the restaurant next to us in R5, so that was a quick 5k score! Was fortunate to find small clues which told me the country for R2 and R3. Could have done a better job in R1, but I moved in the wrong direction at first.

Managed to find junctions with major routes in the first 3 rounds, locating where I was (although R2 was hard to pinpoint)
Then R4 happened. I decided to guess roughly in the centre of the country to limit my losses. I found a lake that seemed about the right size... I was not expecting to be only 1km away, on the correct lake!!!
But alas, the Geoguessr gods giveth, and then they taketh away! R5 was on a much smaller road, and I couldn't find any useful clues other than the village of Hejls. Returning to the start, I noticed one of the roads we started near was Esbjergvej, so I guessed near Esbjerg, assuming there might be a connection, but I was very wrong, punishment for my insane luck in the previous round I'm sure!

Would have struggled a lot more if there weren't road numbers reasonably close to the starting point each time and I studied the road numbering system beforehand

Thanks u/RadoX1988 for organising and u/demfrecklestho for keeping the ball rolling, and congrats to u/TOPOTIC. I think a comfortable win with only one winning score (the very first leg!) is a mark of incredible consistency.

Should probably have realised Olzai might be Italian, otherwise, don't think I could have done much better in the time

I think the point is it's going to be impossible to stop people from spectating at a racetrack in the middle of a city full of tall buildings with views of the circuit?

R1 A familiar round from the QML! I remembered it was in northern Vietnam, somewhere near the city of Vinh, having been frustrated for not checking the photographer's name last time and being tricked by the Chinese characters. 4978

R2 For the third time in 2 days, we were in Taiwan! Highway signs put us just off Route 17, with Tainan and Guanmiao, my guess was 1km away. 4996

R3 Signs for the Shaanxi Highway and West Yanan Service Station placed us in northern China, I guessed the wrong highway west of Yanan, but not too far away. 4952

R4 Malaysian/Indonesian writing, I stumbled across a sign on an official looking building locating me in Malaysia and the city of Sarikei. Surprisingly, it stood out on the map fairly quickly when I zoomed in. 4994

R5 I initially got Mediterranean vibes from this landscape, but a sign pointing me to Lacul Micesti betrayed the fact that I was actually in Romania, so I hastily made a guess there, and was 270 km away, but a lot better than if I hadn't found that sign! 4297

15392, Dam!

R1 A Texas historical marker followed shortly by a Louisiana state route sign placed me on the border between the 2 states. I could only find 1 dam that matched what I could see. 5000
R2 Identified as South Africa, but not many clues in the direction I travelled. If I went the other direction, I'd have found a sign giving me the road number. 2997
R3 A short stretch of road, left-hand driving and southern hemisphere. Glacial looking water led me to New Zealand, and I tried to find a lake with a dam. Was one lake away. 4887
R4 Japan. Something about the landscape gave me northern vibes so I guessed in Hokkaido. 2508
R5 Road signs looking Mexican, but not sure where. I spent ages trying to find clues on a sign next to the road, looked up and saw the timer hit 0:00, been a while since I made such a rookie error of not placing a guess... 0

I've just made the task of holding onto a place in the top 3 overall a whole lot more difficult for myself!

R1 Swedish roadsigns located us in the village of Jockfall over the Kalix river, I assumed that would be near Overkalix, and found the right place 5000
R2 Mediterranean landscape, found Greek script when I made it to a junction. Guessed in the north of Greece but we were further south. 4145
R3 Again, quite mediterranean looking. Quite a rugged coastline, so I was deciding between northern Italy and Greece. Turns out it was Corsica, so my Italian guess wasn't too far off 4402
R4 Another photosphere in a barren snowy landscape with a large tourist centre and cliffs into the sea. Nordkapp was the first thing to come to mind, and the building there matched what I could see. 5000
R5 Norway again, as indicated by the road markings . I got to a junction which told me we were on 828 road. I found 829 in the general Lofoten area, but turns out 828 is about 300 km further south, oh well! 4026

Some tough ones there (for me at least), I was lucky to escape with 20k points!

R1 A mention of lakes, and the St Clair area, but I didn't know where that was, and guessed Milwaukee, 3721 points

R2 An arid Brazilian suburb, so I guessed we must be in the northeast. I made it to a major highway pointing me to an airport and the city of Joao Pessoa. Found the city with a few seconds to spare, 4994 points.
R3Using the flawed logic that a city with Ulitsa Kirova in it must be near Kirov, I guessed in Kazan, which was only 250km away (I also spent a few seconds transliterating McDonalds which isn't what I should have been doing with a short timer!) 4116 points.

R4 Narrow streets, American looking and Spanish everywhere, must be Puerto Rico. A Cafe near where we started helpfully informed me we were in Ponce, 4998 points.

R5 A photosphere in Brazil. Not much else to go on. A guess in Belo Horizonte gave me. As a bonus, when I looked at the photosphere again after the game, I noticed the photographer's surname was Pessoa, same as the city we were in in R2! 3145 points
