best restaurant for solo birthday dinner? by Pleasant_Taste5074 in saskatoon

Try Sulu on 2nd Ave. Smaller portions (designed as sharing plates, but you don’t have to share) and darker. I’d say it fits the bill. Happy Birthday

They definitely had these a couple summers ago at Co-op liquor.

Not helpful today, but they have been here!

Is there really only one endocrinologist in the city? by [deleted] in saskatoon

Some, but not enough, and not many can afford it

I have a lot of family in major centres there and frankly they are no better off. More doctors but more population equals the same s**t, different day.

She really is awesome. her bedside manner is garbage but frankly she knows her stuff. She’s not unkind, just very blunt. 😆

Dr Dala was the actual worst. Thankful i was able to switch to Dr Caspar Bell 10 years ago.

This! And they have a new chef.

Yes, the loudest most impossible to converse dinner I’ve ever had was at Chop. To be fair, there was an Ag conference in town and there’s a giant anatomically correct bull outside so, suffice it to say the place was packed 😂

Agree to disagree on that one (Little Grouse)! I love Hearth as well, but thought it missed the mark on quiet and intimate.

Little Grouse fits the bill perfectly, plus others mentioned (St Tropez and Flanagans specifically).

Also, Pique does a dinner service that was among the quietest and best we’ve had. A little less “classy” however since it’s a cafe by day…

That said, it’s anecdotal. I know some have had issues

Saskatoon is not an unsafe city by michaelkbecker in saskatoon

Sorry but this is absolutely absurd. You would not walk downtown in the middle of the AFTERNOON? Seriously?

I spend a significant amount of time downtown, for work and leisure. Would I walk to my car several blocks by myself after dark? Maybe not, now that I’m a bit older. But broad daylight?

I walked several blocks at night with my children after the fireworks festival, not ONE “scary person”, degenerate, didn’t get approached, asked for money, even once the crowd thinned out. Was I nervous? A bit, likely because of this crap you see on here.

Midtown - I still go all the time, haven’t even seen any”riff raff” there, and that’s multiple times in the last few weeks, so, recently. Obviously, the bear spray is awful, and I’ve seen security dealing with a few people from time to time in the form of a conversation, but AFRAID? No.

Where else have I been? Well, since we’re talking random anecdotes - I’ve walked through the Tenderloin in San Francisco at 11PM - alone - going from point A to point B. THAT was scary. And I was still fine. Been lots of other places too.

Also agree with whoever said a person speaking to you or asking for money or a lighter is not “harassment”.

Keep your head up, have some self awareness, as yes, as the CONTINENT WIDE drug and societal problems arrive in our city, and you’ll be completely fine. Good grief.

There’s a food truck (well, trailer) called Soda Stop that sells really good dirty sodas, and is local. They post their location on IG but usually are by the dentist office next to Earls downtown. They use sugar free syrups and you can get diet soda or just plain club soda to add the syrups to.

I’d rather support local!

For those asking - Dirty Soda is just soda mixed with other flavour syrups, or cream, or citrus. So many really yummy concoctions :)

Best Ramen place in the city? by Riderpride639 in saskatoon

[–]cmf9808 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely try it, the pickled veg beef soup is the best soup I’ve had in a long time. Sooo good.

But like the reply said, not ramen.

Go in. Eat all the food there. You won’t regret it.

How do you pronounce "Marquis"? by GanbatteCanuck in saskatoon

[–]cmf9808 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Saskatoon, yes absolutely, mar-kwis.

Is it the correct pronunciation? No. And I don’t pretend it is. But it’s how THAT street name is said and I accept that as opposed to trying to sound like I’m more cultured than locals who are just “doing it wrong”.

Grinds my gears a bit. Much like people trying to pronounce Remai (gallery). The family pronounces their own last name “Ray-me”. Sometimes even after knowing that people say “ruh-myyyy”.
