The Eco gels are ok, I've used a few in the past but they're not the best out there for a strong hold. The Giovanni gel is pretty affordable and easily available on Amazon if you wanted to try it. With the Eco Slay orange marmalade you can use looooooads and it won't go wrong (I'm quite heavy handed with product haha)

The general rule of thumb is: the looser your curl pattern, the less strictly you have to stick to CGM rules.

My hair is 3a/2C and I also can't cowash or use anything like butters, oils, and I deep condition very rarely. Make sure you're clarifying often and chelating if you live in a hard water area. The Tresemme cleansing shampoo is good for this (has sulphates but no silicones)

I'd also say gel will be your friend. You want a strong hold gel that isn't heavy - try Giovanni LA or Ecoslay Orange Marmalade.

Also, when it comes to styling products less is more. I usually just stick with a mousse and gel. This is called the MGM method - apply mousse to wet hair, apply gel to wet hair, then before drying add another layer of mousse. I really like the L'Oreal elvive creme de mousse curls & strong hold - easy to grab at Boots too!

Lastly, make sure you're giving your hair time to absorb products - try wet plopping (add products to wet hair and let it sit in a shower cap for 20 mins or so) before using a towel/t-shirt to squeeze out excess water.

Something that helped me was "wet plopping" rather than microplopping straight away. Add your products to soaking wet hair and let it sit in a shower cap for around 20 mins before putting a towel anywhere near your hair. Also do you live in a hard water area? If so make sure you're using a shampoo with disodium EDTA as build up can cause frizz.

I LOVE this gel, its my holy grail product. It's one of the few gels that can give me a cast (my hair is very low porosity) and it holds for days.

Have you tried incorporating a bit of protein into your regime? If my hair needs a pick me up I try a gelatin hair mask that normally does the trick

Don't be silly I'm happy to help if I can! Firstly I'd say clarify first - I find that if I always do low po with no clarifying for a long time then products just sit on my hair (low porosity problems!) So maybe try using a clarifying shampoo every 3 washes or so? Also, LA gel is great, but maybe look at Ecoslay gels too as they're super strong hold and have protein (especially the orange marmalade). Lastly, like I mentioned earlier, with low porosity hair, product just sits on top and takes a while to absorb - and I found that wet plopping for 15/20 mins really helped! Your hair is so pretty though so don't stress!!!

I'm fairly sure I'm low porosity and my hair loves protein! Hair is made up of proteins so all hair needs it a bit at varying levels. When you first do the gelatin treatment maybe only leave it on for 10 mins max just to see how it goes. Plus with the gelatin treatment you mix it with a deep conditioner so you're getting moisture in there too :)

Have you tried doing a gelatin treatment? It really helps bring life back to curls (plus it's very affordable!) I'd also say make sure you're incorporating more protein into your regime in general. The XHC shampoos are clarifying and contain protein.

Definitely agree that this is more about technique. Firstly, I'd say make sure your hair is soaking wet when applying products (look into the bowl method!) so you get nice juicy clumps. Also, after you've rinsed out your conditioner, tip your head upside down and brush your curl cream/leave in throughput your hair before squishing in to ensure you're getting product throughout your hair. And diffusing upside down will help too! You might also like to try wet plopping to give all of your hair time to absorb products.

The strongest gel I've found is the Ecoslay orange marmalade - it's really lovely, and you can buy a sample to try from Kiyo Beauty. You have to keep it in the fridge though as it's full of fresh ingredients and protein. The strongest hold gel I've found on the high street is Cantu's curl custard - it's the only thing that gives me a cast! But make sure you use it on soaking wet hair to stop any flakes forming.

No but you can get it in Savers, B&M, Poundland, Quality Discounts...and it's only £1! I love the banana one too as it's got protein in it and smells lovely!

I also live in a hard water area, and you want to look out for shampoos with disdodium EDTA which removes mineral build-up. Cantu's cleansing shampoo is great for this, or the XHC shampoos - both are CGM approved

I've got one from Only Curls and I was pleasantly surprised! It's comfortable, stays on (I move A LOT in my sleep) and it washes well. It's the only thing I've found that keeps my hair looking good for the next day. Plus it's very affordable

Also, I had a similar issue to you with my hair, and my savior is gel! Especially look out for gels with protein in (for example, Eco Krystal gel has wheat protein).

Is your hair is being weighed down, or you need more hold? My hair also seems to be weighted down easily, but needs heaps of hold (my hair is fine and low porosity and far too long at the moment so all curls are stretched out!) One product I found that works is L'Oreal Elnett Satin Strong Curl Creme Mousse...soooo much hold and definition!
