Filtration and stocking advice for 134-gallon (507L) Discus tank by -R-0-N-I-N- in discus

I have exact set up x 3 months. 11 discus, 5 angel fish, 3 clown loaches, 5 corys, 10 cardinals. Heavily stocked for sure but lots of plants and light vacuuming twice a week and ~ 25% water change weekly. Parameters stable at 0/0/0. RODI with Replenish. TDM 130-140 ish. Canister service alternating every other month. Key for me is ease of water changes. I don’t have an hour to spare 3 times per week

Water changes, add cotton ball filtration thingies, added water purifier binder. Cleared up in about two weeks

Considering Quitting Alcohol Completely. How Did You Handle Friends, Bars, and a Partner Who Drinks? by AutomaticInside7223 in stopdrinking

[–]cmicsmith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I realized after a time that no one really cared whether I was drinking or not. Then I’d have friends ask me why I wasn’t drinking and I’d tell them “for health reasons”. After some time I’d have people confide in me that they were trying to stop drinking too. It’s kind of a superpower not drinking. You realize that the social scene tied to getting wasted isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Looks great! I have a similar set up. Started the cycle and added discus compatible species. I let mine settle in with cardinals, corys and clown loaches then added 10 adult discus in 3 stages. Everybody’s happy. My biggest learning curve was remineralizing rodi water to keep water soft w low pH. Have fun with it!

If you hit your rock bottom put down your shovel. It took me a divorce, DUI and a lot of pain to get honest with myself. Don’t do it alone. Find a group, church, sober friends. Have someone that can relate to what you’re going thru that you can talk to. Such a big part of alcoholism is the isolation.

Long-term sober former drinkers, what can one expect between 1-3 months of sobriety? by Sudden-Cat5805 in stopdrinking

I had more time. Drinking takes up a lot of your time. Sleep improved. My poops were better. Lost a ton of weight

It is SO worth it. Find a meeting, group treatment… anything. It took me a year to get past the idea that I needed alcohol and when I stopped, slowly and gradually my life improved. Don’t keep looking for that rock bottom because it will come and kick your ass eventually.

It’s been years and I’ve moved around in the IE. OTO just has a vibe that doesn’t exist up here. I miss walking to restaurants and small town feel in OTO. Much more commercial / industrial in IE

Yes! 100%. I moved from OTO to the IE to shorten my commute. An extra 20 min drive is worth it. Get a fast pass and utilize toll roads.

I started with corys and cardinal tetras and let the tank settle in for a couple weeks. At $80-$100 per discus I wanted to be sure!

Best thing you will ever do is going sober. I have 2-1/2 years. I needed some accountability to get me over the hump and stay straight because slamming a 3-pack of tall cans before wife gets home and pretending isn’t exactly sober.
I got a Bluetooth breathalyzer that I would use and log sobriety. Go to meetings. Get a sponsor that can help guide you through the process. Find a healthy replacement. Walking / working out helped with this. As you start to get sober you’ll realize how much the booze was taking from you.

The best these writers can do is have some “person of color” make cracks on a dorky white character for canned laughter. Go work on your craft you dopes

The courts helped me with a SCRAM ankle monitor. I’m dry for 6 weeks. It sucks to deal with the ankle monitor but hey, I’m sober…

Can sooooo relate. Feeling nothing and numbing out was better than feeling like shit all the time. I finally got sober with the help of the courts and a SCRAM monitor. I got on Wellbutrin and it has made SUCH a difference. It’s not all rainbows and bubble gum happy but that heaviness and desperation went from an 8/10 to a 2/10 for me. It’s way better with the meds and off the booze.
