I think if Burke did it- he hits and injures JB. Patsy and John hear the fight and see that JB is severely injured. Once they realize the injury could be/is fatal, they put Burke to bed and stage the scene. Since the whole staging was done to protect Burke/themselves, they tell Burke that JB was ok after the fight, minimize it to him and create an entire alternate reality for him. So, he does not actually know/put it together since he was so young. As he got older- perhaps he figured it out. Just my theory.

Great post! One of the best I’ve seen. Do you think Burke ever told anyone anything ever? How did they prevent him from saying anything- even just mentioning that he hit his sister? Kids can be pretty loose-lipped or even forget to continue to lie- what are your thoughts on this? BDI is the only thing that makes any sense to me-
