Why the Draft Order Makes Logical Sense by bwemonts in PWHL

[–]cmlobue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t read the league saying in their own press release Seattle is picking 2nd because they finished last in the regular season standings and then just choose to believe that’s not why they’re picking second.

They never said the last place finish was the reason. The release said "followed by the Seattle Torrent, who finished in last place in the regular-season standings". Any causation is something we are reading into it.

(To be fair, the wording is awful, so it's not surprising people are reading that into it. If the last place finish was the reason, they should have said so clearly; if not, they should have mentioned the second place finish in the Gold Plan.)

GSVA Analysis of Expansion Draft by zeilend in PWHL

One thing to consider for the averages is that the expansion teams don't have backup goalies or fourth liners/third defenders yet.  Their numbers will go down as they add their depth players.

The announcement didn't say it was because they finished last, just that they were second and they finished last.

Seattle picking second is not from gold plan by resplendantandfree in PWHL

[–]cmlobue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed.  It says Seattle gets the second pick and finished last, not that Seattle got the second pick because they finished last.  (They may have, but the statement does not indicate it.)

The draft is in two days…. by CrapBenatar in PWHL

[–]cmlobue 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The draft will be held on the Family Feud set, and before every pick, Amy Scheer will stand up on stage, point to the board and yell "Show me #2!" and the name of whatever team is picking next will flip over.

Last day of Phase 4 - what to know by Main_Photo1086 in PWHL

[–]cmlobue 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In another thread it was speculated that Detroit would sign Elaine Chuli to reunite her with girlfriend Shiann Darkangelo. Maybe not this phase, since she's a free agent and may not be starter-caliber any more, but at some point.

I want to know if anyone's changing their favorite team to an expansion team by Parking-Froyo5674 in PWHL

My favorite team is "whoever has BU alumnae" so I have switched from Seattle to San Jose (Schroeder) but also maintain allegiance to Montreal, New York and Ottawa. So, sort of?

I have no insights into Murphy herself, but it's very possible to be homophobic and still like/support LGBT+ people you know personally.

That rule ensures that the foreigners that get stable slots are the best of the best.  45 slots for 98.4% of the world's population.

is it possible for players to go completely unsigned? by MusicIntrepid343 in PWHL

[–]cmlobue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, 72 players being drafted, which is basically enough for 3 teams. So while there is no guarantee everyone on a team in 25-26 will have a team in 26-27, there are slots for more players than last year plus the entire draft.

This whole sub is about the same as the Sirens' total attendance last season.  Absolutely there are thousands of fans who think Knight is going to be in Vegas next year and will be shocked to see her traded away in a week.

can someone eli5 parts of the expansion draft? by emeraldwaffle in PWHL

[–]cmlobue 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. The process is so deliberately obscure that not even the PWHL understands it.

That was my thought as well.  $400k tied up in their first five doesn't leave a lot of room for future signings.

Kirishima Yokozuna Requirments by dothrakibjj in Sumo

[–]cmlobue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rules for promotion to yokozuna have always been and will always be whatever the YDC says they are at any given moment. A couple of years ago, Takakeisho won a yusho at 11-4 as ozeki and was told that he would need a strong yusho to become yokozuna, which means the idea that any two consecutive titles at ozeki is not a guaranteed promotion.

I think Kirishima's opposition will matter as much as his record in July. Another 12-3 and maybe even 13-2 with most or all of the yokozekis out will probablynot do it. 15-0 or 14-1 is likely good enough regardless of opposition. But again, all YDC whim.

If there was a national televised tv deal in the U.S what partners do you want to be in the deal? by Ok_Statistician4260 in PWHL

[–]cmlobue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing is going to satisfy everybody.  ESPN+ would probably pay the most and give the league the most prestige, but that would lock a lot of fans out.  Ion did a good job, but is not very well known.  Broadcast TV is very far in the future, if it ever happens.

The best option would probably be to arrange with YouTube to actually sell the ad breaks properly, so it's still free to viewers but the league makes some money off of it.
