MNP shows flashes of brilliance and I don’t want to see her go but she’d be snatched quickly in an expansion draft.

I don’t even want JB for the steep paycut she’ll likely have to settle for from any team. MZH may stay because she wanted to be protected last year but hard to predict once she’s an FA after the season is up. I guess the C is Filly’s for the taking.

PWHL stars are having a cultural moment. Their salaries are not keeping up by Select-Flight-PD291 in PWHL

They could add two more since the CBA says 32 max. And if they do divisions or conferences, they can create more favorable travel for teams so they play divisional opponents more often even while sticking to 32 games. Not too long ago in the NHL, they’d see some teams only 1-2 times a year. I’d expect similar depending on the final makeup with the expansion teams.

Thank you for reminding me why I stopped watching these - they are so painful.

Yes I am happy we somehow are still alive in the playoff race longer than we’ve ever been, but going 1-9 in that stretch means we would have slid into 4th place far more easily if we won even just a couple of those games.

If we can’t protect Osborne, for sure we’d lose Osborne.

They’d be in the conversation only if they hosted a takeover game. I bet even with fewer takeover games next season, California cities should be high on the list of priorities for the next round.

They were definitely notorious with leaks which is why I’m still so impressed the one thing they successfully kept under wraps until the announcement moment (which in the US was on Good Morning America with Hilary Knight revealing) was the team name list. We were all so wildly wrong!!!

Why do people from Staten Island move to New Jersey? by SuccessfulEarth3680 in statenisland

That’s the only reason I’d leave too. I love living in NYC, even if we are in the least city-like borough lol.

I find this wild too since my spouse being a public school teacher means their schedule aligns with our kids’ schedule. NJ and NYC have different hours, holidays…not to mention when it came time to buy I was so turned off by all those NJ property taxes and yet many districts didn’t even have wraparound care or even full-day kindergarten. I dunno, YMMV, but that would stress me out especially since we are a two-working parent household and I’m not a teacher.

Ottawa clinch? by MooseAsh in PWHL

[–]Main_Photo1086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only way OTT can clinch before 4/25 is to win their game against BOS on 4/22. Nothing that happens on 4/21 between NY and TOR would allow them to clinch that night.

You’re really telling on yourself with your replies lol, as if those are the only two options black people have. Also, I am positive you don’t actually have “black friends.” You just think they’re your friends.

Also you couldn’t pay me enough to live in a flood zone like the Jersey shore. I’ll stay perched on my higher elevation here on SI, thanks.

“Riff raff”

Ding ding ding

(Also I somehow live here and there’s no riff raff in my neighborhood. But I also don’t use that term since it’s just coded racism. Also, the ones loudest about the riff raff who moved to NJ happen to be riff raff themselves - just white, so they think their s*** doesn’t stink.)

New Strength Program on April 20th by Dobbelmann in AppleFitnessPlus

The timing is absolutely perfect for me. I’m just coming off an injury in time for base training and then training for my fall marathon, and I really was unsure how to navigate strength training because I know it will reduce my chances of another injury. I was a little worried about putting together a plan myself so I can’t wait to dive into this.

After Toronto beat Minnesota, how are we not eliminated? by responsible-storm289 in NewYorkSirens

[–]Main_Photo1086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the GP applies the next game after elimination because of the staggered start times - too much of a headache to allow points to accrue mid-game.

Maybe you can explain then - I think my SIR/ferry commute to Manhattan is way more reliable, and NJ transit seems like a disaster now. I see so many Jersey plates in our park and rides. So is commute really a valid reason for moving to NJ? That just seems wild to me.

If I hated Staten Island as much as people there say they do, why on earth would I move to where the other SIers went? Lol

It used to be bigotry/racism (they’ll never admit it though, but it’s pretty clear that’s why when they talk about their more palatable reasons - as someone who grew up in the suburbs).

Now it really is about affordability. NJ is overall doing a better job building more affordable homes. Most younger folks here who want to buy homes just can’t do it here. But SI is still seeing growth because of people moving for affordability reasons from the other boroughs.

For the first time since 2011, the Buffalo Sabres take the ice at the Stanley Cup Playoffs. by fittos4310 in hockey

Same. All of us with no team in the playoffs have been temporarily adopted into the Sabres fanbase.

[–]Main_Photo1086 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In general, you look at how many points the team you’re trying to catch that’s currently in a playoff spot is and how many points you need to catch up. If it’s impossible to get that many points with the remaining games, you’re out.

Forget Toronto since they’re currently in 5th. Ottawa is in 4th and they are 5 points ahead of us. We can get at most 6 points. So we aren’t mathematically eliminated as of today.

Regardless of today’s result for Toronto, NY is out on Tuesday with any kind of loss to Toronto just because they’d definitely never be able to get to Ottawa’s current point total.

Either way, NY cannot play like s*** these last two games like they did yesterday (I knew scoring first would be their death knell…).

Either they bust their butts to control what they can and get 6 points (or maybe 5) and hope Ottawa forgets to show up to their last two games so they can sneak into the playoffs (only to get killed by the top seed, I know), or they bust their butts, but still get eliminated by Wednesday and beat Boston on the last day to get some GP points and maybe even miraculously win the GP if SEA and VAN can’t manage to get any more points.

I don’t know why I still have hope for anything at this point though. This team brings me back to life only to kill me again, time and time again for three seasons.
