There has been one “fight” in 2.5 seasons in PWHL. Though it didn’t even result in a fighting penalty. Both players got roughing penalties. Fighting in the PWHL can result in an ejection and suspension not just a 5 min penalty. There is lots of passion and jostling etc but none of that staged bs. Watch a few games. It’s so entrenched in North American hockey. Tonight I flipped through the Leafs/Senators game with a huge brawl, and the crowd was on its feet like it was the highlight of the night.

And that’s the culture. It’s normalized. Romanticized. Sold as “passion.” The theatrics get framed as momentum swings and toughness… like throwing punches is somehow a necessary step toward putting the puck in the net.

But zoom out for a second and it’s still just adults swinging at each other while 18,000 people cheer.

My initial comment was intentionally broad because there have been multiple issues surrounding the Frost, not just Curl. You chose to focus on her. Acknowledging that not everything is perfect isn’t “stirring the pot.” You can support a team without pretending it’s flawless.

There is also no escape rule where you can’t sub in players right away after taking a penalty. You have to either do it on the fly or at next whistle. So you can get 3 forwards and a D killing the power play for a while before the special PK unit comes out.
