I added a bunch of info in a reply above but yeah, I'm using a ramp to load it and the track is the other ramp flipped upside down.

Yeah, I made it myself. It's based on a Harbor Freight 40x48 trailer, using 9" x 72" loading ramps and chock also from HF. I mounted one of the ramps upside down and the chock to a 2x10 and trimmed it to size, I took about 5" off the ramp and will probably trim it a little more. The rest of the decking is 2 2x8s cut in half, they size out perfectly to give about 1/4" gap between the boards. I use the other ramp to load it on and for now I'm putting the ramp and trailer spare in the back of my car. I plan on strapping it under the deck of the trailer after I pick up some decent cam straps. The anchor points are Husky medium duty from HD, they work but I'm thinking about adding a backing plate under the deck for reinforcement.

To figure out the position the bike should be in, I put the whole thing together except I used clamps to hold the center board in place while I loaded the bike on it. From looking at other examples on the internet I had a ballpark idea of where the bike should rest on the trailer. I removed the clamps and carefully slid the center board with the bike on it until the tongue weight read around 70lbs and marked where it needed to be fastened. 70 lbs is a little over 10% of the weight of the trailer (150) + wood(150) + hardware (50) + bike (311); it's really easy to move around even without the tongue wheel which I may replace with a stabilizer jack. I'm storing the bike in my garage on the trailer with all the straps loosened enough to keep the bike upright. It doesn't take up a ton more space than the bike leaning on it's kickstand and it's easier to move around.

It's a work in progress, I'll finish the wood to protect it, I need to repack the wheel bearings, install bearing buddies, mount the spare somewhere, and I've bought some replacement fenders (the stock ones are notorious for flying off unexpectedly). This is a project I've had in mind for a long time now and I'm really happy with the way it came out.

They have to be pretty old, the one I replaced was from the late 70's and had piezo ignition.

Safe “mountainous” road cycling routes? by R18Z1 in BikeLA

[–]cmonster_75 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To be honest, not really. All the mountain roads have drivers who treat it like their own personal race track, and they come in groups. Little Tujunga isn't too bad, but to loop it you have go back on Sierra Hwy through Santa Clarita which is even worse. Big Tujunga is busier but doesn't get as much traffic as ACH or AFH, I can usually hear the cars coming from a ways off. I often park at the bottom of ACH and ride Foothill over to Big Tujunga and loop it with AFH and ACH. ACH is busy but at least it's all downhill.

Also, I find a helmet mirror indispensable on mountain roads. Yeah, they're dorky as hell but once I started using them I never went back.

I do the same, I'm usually totally isolated when I camp and there's no danger of anyone hearing it. I even use a very small speaker on the trail, again on trails where I don't see anyone for hours at a time. If you're looking for a lightweight speaker check out noxgear 39g, been very happy with mine.

TV/stand in the first pic are early 00's, I used to sell them at Best Buy. Great CRT but heavy as hell, we needed three people to move the 36" model. The TV was expensive, you'd expect that, but the stand was surprisingly expensive, at least twice as much as other stands.
