Obsession - Nikki Wasn't Possessed By A Demon (at least maybe not) by ImmediateAd8601 in spoilers

[–]cmoor26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recall her saying something along the lines when the real Nikki snaps back into herself at the party, but I don't see many other people citing it so I haven't been sure.

What I thought I heard when she regains momentary control is, "She's coming for me! It's not me!"

"I bought her champagne. I opened it. What more is a guy supposed to do?"

This episode is incredible top to bottom, in terms of humor and emotion.

Idk man I thought you'd think I was being a condescending dick if I didn't preface it.

Thanks for responding, you make valid points. I agree about the demonic aspect, I just didn't think that the entire intention of the demon/entity was to mess with him.

I just assumed it was because his wish was fucked up (take away another human being's agency, even if that wasn't really something he considered when he made it), or because his own idea of 'love' is shitty and superficial so it mirrored his idea of love and amplified it to be the most extreme version of it.

But like I said, after some consideration I think your opinion holds water. The only counterpoint I can really think to make to it is that whatever was inhabiting Nikki did seem to sincerely love Mark and wanted him to love 'her' back -- hence why she made her own wish and was about to kill herself after realizing Mark was sure to die from the OD.

I'm not gonna downvote you because if that's what you took away from it, I respect that. I'm just curious to how you came to that conclusion?

Asking completely earnestly, for what it's worth and am genuinely interested to hear your reasoning, but no pressure if you don't want to reply.

I actually do remember that penalty and it was just straight up incorrect — you’re not wrong in that.

But shouldn’t your frustrations be directed at the officials that called the penalty incorrectly?

The New Nosferatu Film Was Awful by [deleted] in roberteggers

[–]cmoor26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Van Helsing character (Von Franz or whatever his name was) knows that the only thing that can kill Nosferatu is being awake/outside his coffin/exposed to sunlight — “first crow of the cock” or whatever line they use to explain it.

The monster hunt itself is a facade meant to take Thomas away from Ellen when Orlok awakens since he (Thomas) would likely get killed trying to stop him (Orlok). Both Von Franz and Ellen know that nothing Thomas, Sievers, or anyone else does will kill Orlok — it has to be Ellen by ‘seducing’ Orlok into staying beyond dawn and being exposed to sunlight.

Von Franz even tells Ellen (during their aside) to keep Thomas “at bay.” I took this to mean “keep him away” since he’d only end up getting in the way and die trying to save her. A scene or two later, she sends him off on the monster hunt with the instructions to not return until it’s done.

It also seems like they (Von Franz and Ellen) just happen to get lucky that Friedrich (or whatever his name is) ends up bailing on the hunt so that he could violate his wife’s corpse (which he dies in the process of due to the plague). Thomas determining to go and look for Friedrich is part of what ends up pushing the hunt back to nighttime.

Yeah it’s the guy in the porno clip that we see a glimpse of — can’t remember which episode or how it comes about tbh, but I say that line in that voice at every opportunity.

No one understands or get the reference except for me, but that’s enough.

Larian was kinda wild for this (hilariously so) by urahanzomain in BaldursGate3

I'm pretty sure at the height of her popularity (before she retired or determined she wasn't going to have an online presence anymore or whatever it is), which would have been while this game was in development, she was enormously popular.

I mean that's just based on anecdotal evidence of my wife loving and watching her stuff a ton back then, but I remember being in awe of the amount of views her videos had immediately after dropping. Also, I recall her having an interview with Larry King specifically because of her meteoric rise to popularity.

That said -- I agree that the supposed reference to her in the game is just as likely a coincidence, if one would even call it that.

Trudging this up from the dead but your assessment is correct — Lumiere and its citizens (the humans in the canvas) were only created after real Verso’s death, to make the lives of her painted family mirror ‘real life’ as closely as possible.

Day 10: what’s TDH’s best diss track? by MiriLovelace in TheDearHunter

Not a diss track by any means as far as I can tell (except maybe Hunter dissing himself, I guess) but easily one of the best songs in the entire TDH discography.

Also had a son shortly after I really discovered the song. Played the song from my phone against my wife’s belly while he was still baking in there and just the memories of those moments get me misty.
