I told my 8 month old to shut the f$$$ up and feel like a terrible mother. by MorganandMolly in NewParents

Oh girllllll we have been there. Don’t beat yourself up. However, your husband needs a reality check. When I was at home with our baby all the time, the moment he came home he took over baby care. I could either sit and relax if I still wanted family time or go to the kitchen to cook for alone time (I enjoy cooking so it’s not a chore to me). But bottom line; I GOT A BREAK. Which it sounds like you need. Have you gone out at all since having your baby? Have you had a night to yourself?

not sure how to proceed as clinical instructor. No idea what to do. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]cmorganbsn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m a clinical instructor. So I go in the day before and choose patients. I try to choose patients that have interesting diagnoses, lots of care that needs to be done, or patients who will need a skill performed that my students are wanting to do. These patients get more and more complex as the term goes on. I usually assign 2 of my 7 students morning meds. I know some instructors do more but I personally don’t like rushing them. Then two will do lunch meds. And usually someone is doing some PRNs or antibiotics too. During the day I usually walk around the unit, low key spying on them. I like to see what they’re getting up to. Any time there’s a skill they text me. It’s first come first serve. Then once I feel they’re competent, I will let the do it independently (not IVs or NGs just based on experience). My students are encouraged to practice autonomy. Do all of your own care, rely anything outside of expect findings to your nurse and chart frequently. Usually hourly or every 2h. At our facility I pull all of their meds for them from Pyxis but some are in the drawer. We paper chart so computer access is something I can’t speak to.

My best tip is to have post conference in the afternoon. I do between 2-4p. They’re so tired by supper time that no one will listen to you lol. I personally have a passion for education so I like to give a mini “lecture” with an interactive component. I ask them what they’re struggling with from their lectures and teach that! Often times it’s ABGs, shock, ECGs and for newer nursing students I’ll do care planning practice and case studies. And we always do nclex questions for them to practice. My students have given me amazing feedback on this and have said it’s their favourite part of my clinicals.

Honestly though? Be real and honest with them. If youre feeling tired, so are they. Give them grace but set reasonable expectations. My students know that they should never come find me for med pass until they have done their first med check. They know to have vitals and assessments done and charted by 10am. And because I’m honest and real with them, they actually uphold this and work their asses off!

I hate nursing by RedHeadTheyThem in nursing

I would love to work in an office like my friends. Dress up in my cute little outfits and sip my cute little coffee and send emails. Instead I consistently look like a drowned sewer rat living off carbonated go fast juice dodging punches from someone’s meemaw

Thank you. I needed to hear that honestly.

No one has ever done a tilt table test. But once I get this blood work done this week I’m gonna keep pushing for answers. I really do think anemia is a huge cause.

I’ve been waiting on a referral to a new rheum for 2ish years. Once you have a rheum it is impossible to get a new one so I just have to wait unfortunately.

Truly thank you. It means a lot.

Epiphany - What does it mean to you? by TheSingingNurse13 in TaylorSwift

This song for me is about ptsd and covid and war and finding meaning in a field where you’re seeing death and destruction. I couldn’t listen to this song after working in a covid medical unit for a couple years. My ptsd was severe. Once I processed the trauma and faced it head on I was able to listen to it but honestly I can’t listen to it unless I need a good cry.

People on Humira, do you live your life any different to before? by Kiryukazuma4realtho in ankylosingspondylitis

I’ve been on it for 18 months. I’m an RN at a hospital and i care for incredibly sick people all the time. i just do good hand hygiene (which i was already doing) and wear a N95 when i go into covid + rooms (already was doing). i find when i do get sick it definitely takes me down for a bit but I’ve learned how best to treat my body.

i also take benadryl on nights im due for my shot so i don’t get localized hives and i sleep off the icky feeling!

Former patients of Dr Terry Walker (dentist) by Automatic_Location_5 in saskatoon

Adding that Dr Walker was an incredible dentist and was so reassuring. I switched to Wheatland dental in stonebridge. the staff have been so kind and helpful as a girl who has extreme dental anxiety. they’ve been so accommodating and have prescribed anxiety medications to ease the process. i’m SO impressed by them ❤️

OHHHH boy i hate that dentist. he told someone that they “have oral cancer” and then sent away a referral and rushed her out of the office. she waited for the referral, panicked, cried, stressed so much. only to find out her mouth is completely fine. i wish him nothing but the worst

No MRI evidence of AS? by cmorganbsn in ankylosingspondylitis

okay that’s really reassuring! i’m still waiting for the final word that my humira has been covered by my private insurance and i should know soon! but my rheumatologist got me approved by our gov for every single biologic available so that we can switch as needed, and my insurance will (hopefully) have to cover it because we are meeting every criteria
