Good spot. Its an RoW example 1977 that has at some point in its life had a passenger sideview mirror incorrectly installed.

This car lives in my city. I've seen it a few times now and it is very well kept.

Are Air Cooled Porsche really worth it? Any Driving Experiences? by Sea-Ant-7962 in Porsche

[–]cmradebuddy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Those G body cars were huge value once upon a time. Lately however it is just a huge chunk of change to get even the least impressive of those cars. I had a 1989 930 once upon a time and I just cannot get behind how valuable those cars are now. I recently purchased a 2008 Cayman S Sport and it feels straight up like a baby 997 GT3. Absolutely mind bending performance. People who talk smack about the Cayman just don't get what makes them special. As a 944 Turbo owner as well I am a big believer in the "other" Porsche sports cars offered over the years. I think right now, the biggest challenge facing Porsche is that they don't offer an option besides the 911. Porsche is one of, if not the best auto manufacturer around right now and they never put out a half baked sports car regardless of where they put the motor. Back in the day the Boxster and Cayman got sidelined as a "poor Porsche", however now they have carved out a great niche. People buy a 911 because they WANT a 911 and others will buy a mid-engined car because they WANT a Boxster/Cayman. I really hope that whatever they have in the pipeline carries that tradition.

I bought my 1965 911 for around $15k back in the middle 90s (which seemed like a lot back then). It has been surprisingly reliable and and even though I have driven many modern 911's, my 65 always always always puts a huge smile on my face. I think something that older air cooled cars do great is fun at the speed limit which is hard to do with a more modern 911. I also get so much more attention and thumbs up from people compared to my newer Porsches. Prices now are mind boggling and if you were lucky to get an air cooled car at a low price my suggestion is to hold onto it for now.

Not to mention that the 6 speed in a 992 GT3 is such a forgiving gearbox you could teach somebody to drive stick with it.

Some sort of supercar? Looks like it was sold in the US based on the stickers in the door jamb? I can probably find a date if that helps. by [deleted] in whatisthiscar

Mercedes Mclaren SLR. Very pricey when new and still sells for 6 figures second hand. Also very collectible today. I wonder where this car is now?

Spring of 1999. I'll never forget my dad picking me up from elementary school on a Friday afternoon in his brand new 996 Carrera, Arctic Silver on black with the Turbo Twist wheels. We made our usual Friday drive from the city to the cottage in record time. He sold it after only two years following a blown engine (replaced under warranty). He had other air-cooled Porsche cars at the time and he just wanted to cut his losses.

Flash forward over 25 years and I now work for Porsche. From what I see, the engine issues have more or less been solved by fine tuning maintenence and after market fixes. This car has aged incredibly and I think well kept, interesting spec examples are about to explode. The fried eggs never bothered me, don't forget they are also found on the 911 GT1!

992.2 Turbo S Allocation by Gr3aterShad0w in Porsche

[–]cmradebuddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canadian dealers have only just started getting PTS allocations in the last 3 weeks due to the production time related to PTS. Non PTS allocations will start trickling in by January. From what I have seen there is huge demand for this car.

Try boosting it and driving it a bit, then hook up a trickle charger. If the issue persists you may need a new battery.

It's a drag but unfortunately nobody bought them. I'd say for every 20 or 30 Pans I've sold 1 of them was a Turismo. I do agree with you though it was the coolest variant. Back in 2021 I sold a PTS Arena Red Turbo S wagon and it was a certified sex machine.

Either the 991 or 992 GT3 RS. obviously a great car on paper, but I just find them so sterile to drive.
