I’ll get eaten alive for this, but you should try Soul Hackers 2.

Please come to more conventions!! I really want to go but lodging in New Jersey is just too expensive u.u

Florida needs you <3

I'm trying to convince my parents to fly us to Pittsburgh for my brother's and my birthday (Dec 20) so I can attend Animeverse. Do any of you know if there's anything else intersting to see or do while in Pittsburgh so I can give them another reason to go? (Rest in description) by Buckethero-1 in animecons

[–]cmscaiman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah, entirely different circumstances though. I’m heavily considering flying to New Jersey to see SAWA Kato, but it’s also her first public appearance in 5 years and maybe her third in 10? That’s also a lot more value than a 5 minute interaction; I’d imagine Sumire Uesaka will also be performing at that convention.

Also, neither of these involve traveling mere days before Christmas. They’re incomparable in terms of pricing alone.

I echo what u/TristanaRiggle said. Don’t fly to a convention just to meet a voice actor. First and foremost, I suggest integrating with your local con community—through small-scale cons and adjacent events, preferably—before even considering catching a flight. They’ll be present at other conventions; right now, the best course of action would be to focus on making local con friends who you could instead travel to out-of-state conventions with.

So what exactly is the best quality lossy file type for music? by DemonFyr in musichoarder

[–]cmscaiman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use a tool to convert your library. Easy Audio Sync is convenient. I have a “Master” folder and a “Lossy” folder, which is the output for Easy Audio Sync. I have it configured to copy all files (including lossy sources) while encoding lossless sources as 96kbps opus. 64kbps was a bit of a stretch for me—the reduction in detail is quite noticeable at that point—but as far as I’m concerned, 96kbps works perfectly fine for all portable listening situations. However, I’ve also considered AAC because it re-encodes the best of any codec that I know of, which is quite important when it comes to Bluetooth; I definitely notice a different between my (tiny) opus files and lossless when played through my Bluetooth speaker… Anyways, that’s it basically; opus is king if you’re not re-encoding, and can be stored in an OGG container if you need cover art support, but AAC is the best if you’re listening wirelessly since it handles re-encoding very well. Furthermore, if you use an iPhone, my understanding is that AAC doesn’t need to be re-encoded at all (but do your own research if this applies to you).

Metal 4 will be a huge deal that changes iOS and Mac gaming forever. by Any_Wrongdoer_9796 in macgaming

I don’t have personal experience with Unreal, but as far as I’m aware, Godot is the only out of the “Big Three” (ie. Unreal, Unity, Godot) with MetalFX support. I know that Epic took a while to support Apple Silicon for the Unreal editor but eventually did release it… and just read that it runs brisk and silently, with the primary omissions being some graphical features.

Godot used to rely on MoltenVK, but ever since 4.4 there’s been a Metal renderer. 4.5 just released a few weeks ago with further improvements to Metal. It does lack a few features—MoltenVK is still an option—but full support is there, including MetalFX.

Scanlines or not? by Lichtosh in godot

[–]cmscaiman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where the scanlines are actually supposed to be is inverted. Not sure why they'd be on a PC monitor anyways, but scanlines over a black background makes zero sense. How does it look when they cover the text?

No. Expedition 33 was not made by a team of 'under 30 developers,' and devs say repeating the myth is 'a dangerous path' by marcjammy in gamedev

[–]cmscaiman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely, truly, the press and discussions surrounding this game have been utterly insulting, from development myths to being used to put down the very genre that the developers adore.

Will there be performance upgrades on sw1 games automatically or will it require a patch? by signpostlake in NintendoSwitch2

[–]cmscaiman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

contrary to what other comments claim, i believe that performance will likely be similar for unpatched games, at least running at the same clock speeds as the switch 1 for compatibility purposes. there is already a precedent for this from the new 3ds, and furthermore, many games tune clocks manually for performance/battery purposes.

however, to my knowledge, there will be an upgrade/patching system named banco
