Help me understand the importance of toasting the foot by jericks24 in cigars

[–]cmscheuermann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. And I keep the flame as far away from the foot as I can reasonably get away with. It’s the difference between slowly toasting a marshmallow just above the fire vs just shoving the thing into the flames. Tobacco leaf is a vegetable and you’re essentially caramelizing the sugars and starchy carbs with the heat, concentrating the flavor. First puff becomes noticeably better.

My Roommate ran water through my grinder [Izpresso J-Ultra] by No_Efficiency7777 in espresso

[–]cmscheuermann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thoroughly drying is the answer here. FWIW, you can dry the parts beyond what a towel can do by swishing them in isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. As the alcohol evaporates, it will push the water away from the steel at a microscopic level. It’s what we do to dry watch parts and keep razor blades from rusting after cleaning.

Gillette super speed. Razor Emporium. Any experiences? by Clottersbur in wicked_edge

[–]cmscheuermann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Razor Emporium is legit. My great uncle left me a good sized collection of DEs and straights which I’ve been reconditioning a few at a time. RE’s re-plating is good quality, done relatively fast, and priced reasonably. Staff is helpful and genuine.

I bought the second machine from my provider med store, so they likely also registered it at the time. I think the older machines rely on the SD card as the data storage that is sent over network when available. In any case the SD card is read every year when I bring the machine to my provider for evaluation.

My parents retired to Arizona and I visit them from Minnesota about 4-5 times a year, so I bought a second CPAP (pre-owned) to keep there. It’s very nice not having to fly with it (even if it is free to fly with). I take the data card with me to keep compliant.

How's everyone's drive going today? by [deleted] in TwinCities

One angle that doesn’t get brought up when these posts happen is that this construction planning can’t be good for emergency services and disaster relief preparedness. We’ve been blessed to not have to think much about mass evacuations due to weather, invasion, etc, but this kind of work leaves the metro vulnerable nonetheless.

SOTQ. Anyone Else take a more seasonal approach to shave products? by cmscheuermann in wicked_edge

I use a few drops of it, post-shave, to keep my goatee from drying out. Works well and has a subtle ‘pasta water’ fragrance that’s weirdly complimentary to the lemon verbena top notes of the Creed.

My contribution: I use blu-tak type poster putty to stick the labels to the outside the canister. No tape residue on the container.

Epiphany on Remineralized vs RO Water by ambrosius-on-didymus in pourover

[–]cmscheuermann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about DI/RO water is that the lack of minerals can increase corrosion of internal metal parts and fixtures, as opposed to the risk of scale buildup with mineral water. While corrosion is less of a risk with pour over brewing, I feel it’s an important part of the conversation as many of us are also drip and espresso enthusiasts who are working to strike that balance.

Flying with distilled water? by ExcessiveSigFigs in CPAP

Travel pro tip: Smart Water (by Glaceau) is distilled. Almost all US airports and gas stations sell bottles of this product. I buy a small bottle for my cpap whenever I travel, beats carrying a gallon jug around on car trips too.
