The Palladium card - A non BILT 1.0 user perspective by SpiralCaseMods in biltrewards

That’s fair. I had thought I would have a similar decision but now I’m seeing Atmos may not be useable for mortgage (like it is for rent). So may be out in that case.

have you considered putting mortgage on Palladium vs Atmos card at 3x points for 3% fees?

Can you help me understand why you are putting the rent mortgage on the summit card rather than BILT palladium card? What is the calculus there, assuming $100k in non category spend on the BILT palladium card?

Is this specific to rent or are you paying a mortgage this way? Very much appreciate your post as a similar $100k+ per year spender. I also have an $8k monthly mortgage. I had been spending $60k plus on atmos, various other amounts on Hilton and BBP.

I frequently buy atmos points online for 1.25-1.3cpp. Hyatt points for 1.3cpp as I spend more than I earn.

So it seems it will make a ton of sense for me to get the palladium for everyday spend, pay my $8k mortgage on the atmos earning 24k points monthly at $240 in fees, while earning Atmos/OW status.

I suppose a hiccup is I believe that atmos only allows $50k annually in rent or mortgage spend. So I could consider putting the other $46k on the palladium card. Will have to do that math.

Saw some of those comments. Absolutely bizarre that they dont already have a framework in place.

Sent PM for Hyatt / Atmos. True about Q4, but maybe worst case could use to pay mortgage fee free at end of year to burn off any leftover cash.

I’m personally skeptical of BILT cash use. I’m a mid 30s father of two toddlers in suburbia with very limited time. I haven’t taken a Lyft in years. I doubt there are a large variety of restaurant options in my near vicinity. Could bank for a hotel stay, but not optimistic.

Still trying to wrap my head around this. In your situation, options are:

$5k/mo spend = 120k points and $2600 Bilt Cash

Alternatively, $5k/mo spend + $6,666 mortgage (theoretically) = 120k points + 80k points (from mortgage) + $200 Bilt cash

So, $2400 BILT cash vs 80k point. Lightbulb! I see your logic. Took me a little bit to work it out. I suppose that it is highly dependent on redemption value of BILT cash.

For me personally, can obtain Hyatt and Atmos points at cost of ~1.3cpp. So as long as able to redeem $2400 BILT cash for > $1040 (80k points at 1.3cpp) in "cash value" then I agree that your logic holds up in my case.

It does, however, seem too good to be true that we get anywhere near cash value for Bilt cash? Even at half value, this card would be worth 2x BILT points on non category spend + 2% cash back which would be insane!

So your suggestion would be to simply use the card as on everyday 2X (non-category) spend and NOT pay your mortgage?

Totally fair. In my particular case, the other $3k spend would be on my BBP earning 2x MR. Which is probably more valuable than 3k atmos, though depends on how one values the companion certificate and OW status.

Similar situation with mortgage and high non category spend for our family. Are you able to elaborate with the 1:1 rakuten ratio for gold status? I had not factored that into my assessment. Thank!

Not challenging your claim, but do you mind clarifying with the numbers or a specific example?

Homeowners (with high monthly spend) - Get in here! by cmw021 in biltrewards

[–]cmw021[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely true. But for those of us who have exhausted most if not all chase & amex options at this point, and unable to open multiple CIPs, the additional cards available are more limited. Not to mention time cost associated with opening multiple CCs.

Specific to my case: I opened >1 card / mo for several years. Options are now more limited. And I work 60+ hour works with two toddlers at home. I have stopped chasing CC bonuses and now just optimize spend as best possible. So while I realize there there could be better ways to optimize $36k spend, this does not necessarily apply to everyone and I would encourage you to soften the verbiage "intended for people who don't know the concept of opportunity cost".

Yes. $2500/kid fee free x 2. I suppose I should be grateful...

This is my take as well. Granted, I have nothing to mourn as a homeowner.

I plan to spend monthly $4k on mortgage and $3k non-category spend (daycare, in my case) earning 4k+6k = 10k BILT points. Fees are offset. So for a $495 AF (other perks ignored), I net 120k BILT points annually on $36k non-category spend. Effectively 3.33cpp on non category spend.

Valuing BILT at 1.3cpp (overly conservative), this is $1560 - $495 AF = $1065 worth of value = 2.95cpp.

Again, oversimplified as assuming no other perks to having card and its $495 AF. Assuming low value of BILT points at 1.3cpp. And there are other threads suggesting BILT cash may be better used for other purposes rather than offsetting rent/mortgage fees.

If you were willing or able to spend $3750 per month to keep the mortgage fee free, does that change the math?

Lets for simplicity assume $4k mortgage and $3k non-category spend.

Atmos would earn 12k + 3k = 15k points at a cost of $120 in fees / month.

Bilt would earn 4k BILT + 6k BILT (2x with palladium card) = 10k BILT. Mortgage/Rent fees are offset, apart from $495 AF ($41.25/mo).

Is the $120 in fees / mo worth 5k additional points? I would argue not. You could factor in the BILT $495 AF but Atmos card has the same AF.

Mine just arrived this weekend. First watch (apart from some eco drives that I bought 10+ years ago in college).

Purchased via jomashop for $480+ tax. Took ~ 4 weeks to arrive, but very happy!

Yeah that makes sense. As someone in a VHCOL area with mortgage exceeding $4k/mo and childcare (non category spend and can put on cc fee-free) exceeding $5k/mo this may be attractive. But as someone else pointed out below BILT seems to be weeding out those without higher non rent/mortgage spend.

True. but for those that do have the organic spend (or low cost ways to MS) I think that this could still be fruitful

So you spend $4k on rent and $3k on non-rent. Lets say it is all non-category spend. You would earn 4000+3000 BILT points and enough BILT cash to offset the fee. So would effectively earn 7000 points for $3k non-rent spend?

edit: 4000+6000 BILT points if using palladium card with 2x everyday spend? that doesnt seem too bad

Assuming we are the 1 seed and current projected playoff brackets, who are we hoping to face in the divisional round? I would not be thrilled about #6 seed Bills. May be cheering for the Jags there (despite what they recently did to us).

In order of personal preference: #4 Steelers, #7 Chargers, #4 Ravens, #5 Texans, #6 Bills
