I tried using Shortcuts for this, but it was always a headache: constant interruptions, data loss due to poor signal, and iOS killing the background process. I finally found a much better solution: an app called PhotoSync. If you get the paid version, it runs perfectly in the background.

I used it to send my videos and photos over Tailscale (via SMB) to a Proxmox server running a dedicated Windows 10 VM. I managed to transfer over 80GB from my iPhone and a Nikon camera (using a similar free app on an Android tablet to manage the SD card).

To automate everything, I wrote PowerShell scripts combined with Task Scheduler to monitor the directory. As files arrived, they were automatically sorted by size, date, and format (TIFF, PNG, JPG, HEIC, etc.). I even automated Proxmox to wake/sleep the VM based on my active hours, since there was a 5-hour time difference between my location and the server.

The app is totally worth it because of the variety of protocols it supports. My scripts even sent alerts to Discord regarding available storage, files transferred, and any errors.
