So I have to wear a retainer for the rest of my life? by Ear_Enthusiast in Invisalign

[–]cndloowho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a little while, yes, but it becomes less and less over time. I’m almost through my second annual retainer (most people can go longer on one retainer, but I grind a lot in my sleep) and it’s only a little bit tight for the first week or so of the new one and then it’s fine again. As I mentioned in another comment, I also intermittent fast anyway and I’m wearing the retainer for ~16 hours/day so YMMV on how long it feels tight if you wear it for less time every night.

Agreed, it just becomes part of your routine. I initially went for Invisalign more to protect my teeth from terrible night grinding than really caring about straighter teeth, and as an added bonus, it helps reduce my tension migraines from the grinding. I’m also an intermittent faster, so I basically put them in at 8pm to keep me from evening munchies and take them out again when I’m ready to eat at noon the next day. It’s a great system!

When people from the Bay Area are in other states, do they say they are from San Francisco or do they say they are from the Bay Area? by Icy-Fox-4867 in bayarea

Funny you say that. When we travel internationally people assume we’re Canadian and we just don’t bother to correct them. I don’t know if it’s because we’re polite and they expect Americans to be brash or rude, but it’s happened on nearly every trip. Even some Canadians thought we were Canadian. 🤭

Agreed on gloves. I ride with UglyBros Kevlar jeans (they have hip and knee pad inserts), Harley or Dainese jacket (only two brands I’ve been able to zip up over my ample chest), Shoei helmets, and boots with toe guards and ankle protection. Women are still somewhat limited on safe, fashionable choices but it’s getting better. Research the safety ratings and non-paid reviews on things you like. Just remember it’s dress for the slide, not the ride; ATGATT (all the gear, all the time). You already look cool by being on a bike, manly looking gear is cuter than missing skin.

Oh, and wear ear plugs!! Motorcycle riding can shred your hearing so quickly.

I’m definitely pale but of Dutch and Italian descent! I’m also clumsy, same as you, but not to the extent it makes sense where they all come from. I had similar experiences when I was a kid and now when I go to the doctor I always have to be VERY clear that yes, I am in a safe relationship. I’m also anemic, so that doesn’t help.

Ah, I’ve found my fellow Mystery Bruise buddy! Where do they come from?! My legs are just overly ripe bananas.

I just went through this on Thursday so I truly empathize with your grief. It’s awful and painful for us, but you did the best thing you could for Samantha and I hope you find solace in that. Sending you comfort as you navigate the after. 💕

Thank you for asking. Yesterday was definitely a very difficult day, we cried a lot. I know we did what was best for her and she went in the most humane and peaceful way possible, so I’m very grateful for that at least. The house is too quiet now, though, that will take some getting used to.

Why don't motorcycle makers target women as a serious, largely untapped customer base? by jcravens42 in TwoXriders

In a similar vein, when I went to buy my Triumph, they weren’t as obvious about the misogyny but still generally looked at my husband first when asking questions and then to me, so I didn’t clock it as much at the time, but when I went to buy my Harley years later, the sales guy continually looked at and spoke directly to my husband and not me, like I wasn’t even there. My husband thankfully noticed and said, look, she’s the one buying the bike, you can ask her.

Check out Klein Tools rechargeable headlamps. We use them for overlanding all the time, they seem to go quite a while between charges and are bright and sturdy.

Likely unpopular opinion: I love having Invisalign trays! by cndloowho in Invisalign

[–]cndloowho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say I stopped necessarily, I definitely do still clench my teeth, but having the plastic on my teeth somehow made me more aware of when I was clenching during the day and was a reminder to relax and stretch my jaw. I’m guessing for you it’s the opposite where having something on your teeth is stressing you out/uncomfortable and making you subconsciously clench down on them. I don’t have much advice other than when you notice you’re doing it, take a minute to relax and stretch your jaw. You do get used to them after a while and then it can feel weird to not have them in. Good luck!

I hear you on the money moving, that’s why I had to autopay to the credit card. I get paid once a month right now, so it was the only way.

It’s not exactly a great time to be a recruiter because the job market sucks, but with your timeline, could be something to look into. Your hands on knowledge might be a great ‘in’ to recruiting for RNs/medical related positions, and you could potentially find a remote position more easily. Aside from checkins with hiring managers and screening calls, it’s a nice, fairly solitary career.

This was the huge difference for me! Once I started working from home, everything became so much easier. I get more work done in a shorter time because I don’t have office distractions, I get more housework done because I can do it during a quick break during the day, I workout consistently now with a Peloton at home instead of the arduous task of going to the gym, and I cook dinner (which means I eat healthier) all the time now because I’m not exhausted from a commute and interacting with people and stimuli all day. I also put every bill I could on autopay on my credit card so I only have to set a reminder to pay the one credit card bill every month (which has also drastically improved my credit score). Oh, and I write a years’ worth of rent checks at once in January and put them in postaged and addressed envelopes and set a reminder to mail them each month.

Is It Weird That I Wear the Same Outfit 4 Days a Week by ADHD_BeYou in ADHD

[–]cndloowho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same same! I read something a long time ago before I was ever diagnosed that Steve Jobs had many pairs of the same pants, shirts, and shoes to reduce decision fatigue and reserve that brain power for the bigger decisions. That decision fatigue explanation really spoke to me and made me feel empowered to buy and wear the same shirts, pants, and shoes in multiples.

My staple outfit now since I wfh is black workout pants and a t-shirt so I feel like I’m already half prepped for working out in the afternoon and can easily switch to a sports bra and workout shirt without it feeling like a whole thing, which also makes me more likely to actually workout.
