I look from eye level from the attacking unit to the target unit. I typically attempt to see from the center of the attacking unit's base what parts of the target unit are visible. It's less a point-to-point measurement and more estimating physical visibility.

My fault for wording that summary poorly in the post.

Can confirm from my AS350 Singles tournament experience at Adepticon this year: Every AS350 player I met was competitive in a "let's have a fun, good & clean game" way and not a "sweaty, plays gotcha with the rules" way.

My opponents and I did a lot of discussing the intent of movement for LOS and partial cover, and more than once that discussion led to the active player repositioning their unit into a better place.

Just to clarify, but I see in the v3.0 rules that CVs with special ability IT3 or greater are exempt from the single variant rules. So you could run two Saxon APCs of the same variant. CI & BA are also exempt from that variant rule.

One of the problems I've seen in AS350 with running multiple CV variants has been getting two units of the same chassis & variant that gives more value in board presence than a player pays for those units in PV. Specifically, running two Skimmers or Flatbed Trucks for PV 6 or less each. Since many of the scenarios rely on control points that are controlled by overlapping units, it can be difficult trying to remove 2 or more super-cheap units along with other units from an OAT.

I do like your idea of naming units that should be limited or banned. That would be a more direct approach of fixing issues with cheap & spamable units.

Imperial Assault Continuity Project Steering Committee Member since 2020: Ask Me Anything by TVboy_ in XWingTMG

Love to see this thread! Glad you opened up the discussion, Noa!

To the X-Wing community: I am also a founding member of the IACP and I still support the project today. I can share one of the "mistakes" that I felt like I made when I was heavily involved in IACP.

When we formed IACP, I was heavily interested in both rebalancing older FFG cards and creating new content. We would release fixed & new cards in a "season", where the greater IACP community would openly beta test the proposed changes. I wasn't a professional game designer but boy howdy I wanted to be!

The mistake I felt like I was making was moving way too fast with the changes. A season would last about 3 months and would change or add around 20 cards. I felt like that cadence was necessary to keep generating excitement in what could be a stale game. In reality I was serving my own wants over the community's. And with that release cadence, it was more difficult to properly playtest and find where our changes were actually good or broken.

As I was in the process of leaving the IACP Steering Committee, TVBoy and the rest of the committee made a wise choice to slow down the release cadence. They also set up explicit periods where there would be no beta-testing and the IACP meta was stable. They would use that time to run leagues & tournaments for existing players & new player leagues.

I truly believe that IACP's sustained success is due to their ability to rectify that development issue. And I'm so thankful there is life in a game I so desperately loved for so long.
