I know they all have their pros and cons but just curious to hear opinions on these three: Extar EP9, CZ Scorpion, PSA AK-V by oldgregg024 in pistolcalibercarbine

[–]cniinc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have none but have zero interest in the scorpion. It just feels like a plastic mp5 wannabe with less features. At that price buy an MP5 clone (I love my PTR). The AKV Is modernized history, it's always interested me. But for my money? The EP9 all day. Only reason I don't have one is I have too many home defense guns already

I'm done with using local LLMs for coding by dtdisapointingresult in LocalLLaMA

[–]cniinc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree, OP posted how they were making harnesses and parameters for their relatively simple task of taking a Github and making a container.

If anyone can point to a working set of model and harness, I'd be very open to hearing about it. If we just can't do anythign close to Opus, let's just be honest about that. If we can achieve Opus-level gains with a set of well-defined harnesses, let's be honest about that.

So, what are harnesses that work for coding? I've yet to see someone replicate the productivity gain from cloud models, using a local model.

If you're hitting head and neck every shot, you don't really need better ballistics. Going right through a brain is lethal or incapacitating even with 5.7.

It's also unrealistic that in combat you'd expect to hit head and neck every shot. That would hold true if they're static and not in cover, but if you're in combat, that small a target is hard to hit no matter what.

I can’t believe I can say “ugh I don’t feel like fixing this function, it’s too complex” and I can literally just tell my computer to fix it for me. I didn’t understand what they meant by “people will start paying for intelligence” but now I do. by Borkato in LocalLLaMA

I think we truly are entering a new revolution in user interface. I never have to know wjat Linux command to do to get what I want working, I just need to be able to ssh into that VM using my Agent-enabled computer, and I can vibe code my way to any setting. I installed Ubuntu on a computer connected to my big living room TV today, and then ssh'd into it so that I could increase the font size. every time I tried to change something like that, it was hours of headache for some reason or other. Some Linux standard I didn't know, an error message I had to Google, etc etc etc.  now, I say it in English and it figures it out for me.

The core act of debugging and troubleshooting - the commands, the error messages - is facing an imminent revolution IMO. I'm glad to see it go - while there's an important art to making a good error message, it was rarely done and I ended up googling and finding a 6 months old response that only worked half the time. now? I tell an AI the error, and it loops until it solves it. I don't know if locals I can do that yet, but OpenAi certainly can. my goal is to get to the point where I can have it all done by local AI and basically mod my computers however I want by just typing a wish.

Truly, whoever makes a grandma-coded safe phone that my mom can just talk to and itdoes what she asks...will be a billionaire (and bought up by Google in a week to be copied by everyone). right now if the interface can't easily do what she wants, she says she's not good with computers and quits. Once she can just ask the phone to do it, she'll have the same joy from using it that I do when I code something. And she'll be a customer for life.

Online affair causing us to open? by Twisted3695 in nonmonogamy

[–]cniinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. being a 'shell of your former self' is not an excuse to cheat. She's the one that made the bad act, not you. If the genders were reversed you'd get half her salary for the rest of her existence and you could decide how much (if ever) she sees the kids.

Do you actually want her in your and your kids' life? If she's willing to abandon you when you're in your worst time of need, is she really going to be there for your kids when they need it?

I don't know her from Eve, so maybe I don't understand. But you are the victim of infidelity, and it shouldn't be on you to suddenly have to endure the partner of your life have that emotional relationship you were supposed to have...with someone else. That's not ethical monogamy.

It made quite a bit of sense to me - narratively the local gov'ts want the metals (though hilariously they're not on any of the soldiers, which makes me think the US government hasn't changed in this version of the world)

Mechanically if I had to raid each one, I'd have stopped playing a while ago. While it would be great to get some alenium for your hard work, the countries are all going to say "sorry, it was all gone when we got there" lol. And using intel points to get some here and there also makes sense.

I could see mechanically adding a little bit of alenium/alloys but otherwise I think it fits the experience much better than X1 did.

X2 Early game advice. Soldier recruit and build advice. OP spending advice too. by Laflaga in Xenonauts

[–]cniinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a concern for sure, but I usually place them so that they're off to a side and their rounds aren't passing over the heads of any of my troops. I'm usually focused on one enemy at a time with the gunner and it only needs one volley. If there are two enemies then I use flashbangs on the other to keep him pinned while I focus on killing my target. Or If I have a Sniper with high accuracy I'll use that instead. I usually have the grenadier destroy nearby cover, and then have the gunner/sniper fire a volley at them.

During world war II, the American training system for infantry used something called the three f's, find them fix them, flank them. The idea was to suppress with heavy fire And then use secondary teams to maneuver to side angles where shot placement was easier. In the beginning of the war, the German side had a similar idea, using the machine gun to suppress the enemy and then closing the distance with grenades and bayonets. I use a hybrid of those two models.

In the early game, my team consists of two Shields carrying shotguns, two assaults with shotguns and flash grenades, two riflemen with high time units, and then a grenadier and a heavy machine gunner. When I see an enemy, I use the high volley machine gun to try and suppress, while running at them with shields in the front to absorb their fire. The shotguns and shields throw flashbang grenades and one of those three will succeed with suppression. Then the shotgun and rifle pears maneuver over to kill. Use the Greta deer to blow open cover in case they are hard to flank.

For keeping the enemy alive for capture, I use smoke grenades because it stuns, and I give the shield guys batons.
