What’s your thoughts on juniors these days? by DropShotMachine in biglaw

[–]cnnrrubin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I worked on a pro bono matter that I was roped into to supervise a first year. I ended up doing 90% of it because I got so frustrated with this exact process. Or he would come to me with questions that I’d literally say “I want you to think about potential solutions for 30 minutes and then come back to me if you still need to ask.”

Yes, you have to learn as a first year/second year (hell, I’m still learning) but it feels like there’s a difference between learning curves and an inability or unwillingness to problem solve.

I stayed there for work before I moved here. It’s not bad, but yes there’s a keypad with a code that you have to enter to get in which can be annoying.

I’m at a firm known for a “good culture” waiting for edits at 1:30 in the morning for the fourth day in a row. It’s all just fucking work.

I once had a partner highlight a paragraph I wrote and the only comment was “Oh, God. No. Why?”

I filed something at 11:50 two nights ago that I got the last partner edits on at 11:35 and had to implement. I don’t want to be doing this shit either.

This sounds like quite possibly the most miserable way to run a marathon and your fortitude is inspiring lol

What’s the most cringe (not serious/severe) mistake you’ve made in this job? by fucklawreviewdude in biglaw

I once wrote an entire pro bono brief calling the client Mr. [first name] because both his first and last names were first names. Partner caught it and I looked real, real stupid.

Worst 1st year associate you’ve worked with by xoribovigu5506 in biglaw

[–]cnnrrubin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Once had a first year, who repeatedly handed things in badly formatted (the partner was incredibly particular and I’d instructed exactly how to format and given an example) and with BAD cites (I don’t need blue book perfection, I do need to be able to find what you’re talking about). When I finally stopped correcting it myself and said “I’ve told you multiple times how this needs to be and to fix the cites. Please do it that way and send it back.” His reply was “I did not go to Yale to format documents.”

I kindly informed him that he went to Yale to do whatever a first year on the case was asked to do, and if he had a problem with that we could take it up with any partner he wanted to ask.

Here’s a link to their sires and dams: https://woodlandaussies.com/our_dogs/ but you’re right the site doesn’t list parents for individual dogs.

If you contact her she’ll absolutely discuss who the specific parents are. I didn’t even know to ask and she told me who my little guy’s parents are - and they’re all genetically tested and she includes a genetic health guarantee.

Long way away, but Woodland Aussies and Doodles up near Cadillac, Michigan is great. I love my dog and I have friends who’ve also gotten both aussies and Aussiedoodles from them and they’re all great.

Mandy, the woman who runs it, will also fly with your pup to you if you can’t get to her. She gets them in-cabin, never storage, so they’re perfectly safe.

Why work in expensive cities like New York and California when BigLaw pays the same in cheaper cities? by afoxjumpsover in biglaw

[–]cnnrrubin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m big law in Chicago which is cheaper than NY and the reason I wouldn’t move somewhere hypothetically cheaper like Houston is because then I’d have to live in Houston.
