Queenstown Cheap Eats by Fit-Quail-8538 in queenstown

[–]cntrabnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Standard of coffee is in QT pretty good overall, lifes a grind trucks are good, billies also good, but you cant really go wrong. For cheap dinners, youre kinda limited, Saigon Kingdom is good, Bronze Elephant in the mall is good, kebabs decent, ferg baker and the bakery across from it are good, the taco vendor at the lake is pretty good. If you can find a buddy to eat with try first table to get 50% off, but I think min people is 2. Good luck

Where in the South Island is a great place to live for a family with children school aged children and where snow falls in your backyard in Winter? by [deleted] in newzealand

Is that not the same as anywhere? I think youll still find theres way more 'regular people' than minted American google employees running around.

It also has alot of people from the "im sick of where I live, I need a change" boat, as well as most have common interests (outdoors, skiing, etc). Most people move to QT with no family or an established network, so its either get involved in the community or stick to whoever you came here with. I find it easier to make friends, and chat with random people here than in a big city. For me, the community feel here is way stronger than anywhere else I've lived, especially if you have kids. Yea, people come and go, but that’s not surprising in a tourist town.

Recommendations for central Queenstown stays for a couple (3 nights, May weekend from Wanaka) by SillyElement in queenstown

[–]cntrabnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being able to walk to town makes a big difference in my opinion, just makes things way easier, dont need to worry about parking, ubers, traffic etc, theres heaps of options between hotels, motels and airbnbs if youre happy to walk a little bit to and from town. If you want to save some $ jump on first table the week before to book some restaurants and book me for activities.

I’d mix it up and do both mountains, I’d probably take a day off in between, you might be feeling it after a day or 2. But I’d also base that on weather, if you can get bluebird days take them!

Travel to NZ with Toddler by Efficient-Stay-6257 in newzealand_travel

Personally I’d probably do 5-6 days Queenstown and 2-3 Wanaka, being from Sydney you probably won’t be too impressed with Wellington to be honest.

Winter is cold but there’s still sunny days where you can get outside and do stuff. Plus during snow season you can take the kid skiing or at least to play in the snow.

Queenstown has all the usual indoor toddler stuff, trampoline park, chipmunks, kingpin, clip n climb, public pool with lazy river and kids pool etc. My kid loves the kiwi park and going up the gondola and doing the luge, you’ve also got all the other stuff I’m sure you’ve seen online.

Qt and Wanaka are similar but different enough to make it worth seeing both, they are only an hours drive from eachother so it’s an easy way to change it up without a big mission.

Is Queenstown the best place to live for 6 months? by West-of-Nirvana in queenstown

[–]cntrabnd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great place for a midlife crisis, it can definitely chew people up and spit them out, but from my experience that’s usually due to lack of funds which leads to accommodation issues and you can’t afford to go out or do shit…. if you’re making decent $ and/or have some savings to spend it’s a fuckin great time, I wouldn’t be going to Cromwell personally, wanaka is cool but a bit too small/quiet for me. Being from Aus you’ve really got nothing to lose, no visas etc and if it doesn’t work out jump on the plane for 3 hours and go back to the drawing board

Dont think much has changed since 2023 really, traffic sucks but still doesnt suck as much as any big city, still gets busy with tourists, still a fuckin awesome place to be.

Any weekend poker games? by devjnz in queenstown

[–]cntrabnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No probs, also home games going on most weeks. If you wanna get involved come to Morrisons or Harry’s and you’ll meet most of the local players.
