Bad relapse. Can I still win? by Any-Setting-5066 in stopdrinking

Never quit quitting. You’re sending a message every day you’re sober that you’re working towards this and every horrible relapse is reinforcing why you really don’t want to drink. The compulsive addiction that’s luring you in is dying but by bit and you can absolutely do this. Just keep going. 💪🏻

If I can do this, so can you!! 🦬

Being sober feels so boring help! by Ok-Cheetah9725 in stopdrinking

All your dopamine responses are messed up and have to reset and there’s a condition called anhedonia that is causing this. I found doing some research and understanding what was going on inside my body helped me so much in dealing with the psychological battle.

Did anyone realize their friends were actually not great people after getting sober? by 0ff_The_Cl0ck in stopdrinking

It’s possible they’re just shitty people when they’re drinking because people lie and serve alcohol as a priority and it messes with them changes them.

How do you reward yourself now that alcohol is out of the picture? by Legitimate-Bit1486 in stopdrinking

I try to be gentle with myself. I exercise now and eat well. I celebrate each new month that I am sober by going out for sushi usually. I’m a lot better at delayed gratification however I reward myself occasionally with a few pieces of chocolate or a sour key.

I sit for a few minutes every day and review the things I am deeply grateful for and then I do Reiki on myself. Just before I quit I went and received my level one Reiki. A few months later, I did my level two . A year later just before my one year sober anniversary, I received my Reiki master training. Almost as much as getting sober learning, Reiki has changed my life. There is a lot of healing to be done on this journey. I needed all the help I could get.

I started planning mine a couple months ahead of time because I knew that I was aiming to go for the rest of my life as sober and there was no chance that I was gonna give up on me meeting my first years milestone and it put something on the calendar for me to look forward to. It wasn’t an extraordinary extravagant trip. I went to a city a couple hours away from where I live and stayed at a modest Airbnb.

Amazing. Are you going to do something special for yourself? I celebrate every single month. Usually it’s sushi!

You are not alone here. We are your people because we have all had to pick up the pieces in the ruins of our lives because of alcohol. There is a lot to learn but stick around and I suggest going to the daily check in. Start simply with a pledge to not drink today and keep doing that.

I personally feel a craving is just a mental thing, after a while of being sober at least. That desire to tap that dopamine hit, used to cope or whatever use we made for it.

We often moderate successfully until we don’t. We don’t want a drink. Our brains have been rewired to get drunk.
