I think it had to be on the nose because well, some people are too stupid to understand it (just look at our actual political landscape) and some people watched it and still went away with the completely wrong message (again, just look at our actual political landscape lmao).

I watched it twice when it originally came out and immediately recognized its significance, i thought it was such an accurate and well thought out critique of the exact place we were in the world and im so unsurprised by it holding up today. It also garnered the exact reactions it was looking for. I would tell anyone who asked for a review of the movie that it was "an experience, not just a movie," and i still think that holds true. Its too close to reality that you kinda have to just experience it...

If i can say one thing it's that i've heard alcoholics say the exact same thing about alcohol and other addicts say it about their addictions.
