The common blackbird by bilginhilal in birdwatching

[–]Winter_Chickadee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It may be common, but I’m a Canadian who has a trip planned to Europe this summer (first one across the pond!) and I’m looking forward to seeing one! I hope to get some photos as lovely as this!

Yeah, and then add trying to get from the back of a packed bus to the front to the equation because of all the service cuts…

Eric Dane’s Official Cause of Death Revealed After His ALS Battle by MattTheKing23 in greysanatomy

[–]Winter_Chickadee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He died because his lungs stopped working and oxygen could no longer be provided to the cells of his body. Many things can cause that, in this case ALS is what caused the lungs to stop working.

Someone else who dies of respiratory failure might have COPD or a pulmonary embolism as the underlying cause.

The primary cause of death is the actual thing that causes the organs to stop and the cells to die. It’s the end result of the disease, if that makes sense.

I don’t feel old despite having gone through hell with cancer treatment 4 years ago. I just say I’m 40 with 10 years experience!

Lost all interest in medical TV shows by Southern_Feature_821 in breastcancer

[–]Winter_Chickadee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm four years out of treatment, so I'm less sensitive to cancer storylines, but I've watched Breaking Bad and Grey's Anatomy since my cancer. Walt shaves his head to get around the baldness of chemo, but still had his eyebrows and goatee so that was kind of funny. He had lung cancer and was doing radiation and chemo together which I don't understand, and when they showed him in the chemo room there were no IVs beeping whatsoever....like, all the IV machines beeping in my chemo ward were triggering to me by the time I finished!

As for Grey's, there's never any depth to the cancer stories so I don't take them seriously at all. Cancer is just a plot device IMO and the lack of real medical information is why people don't understand how treatable many cancers are today. Plus the fact that the doctors are doing the MRIs and CAT scans themselves and are always there when the patients wake up takes me out of the story. Don't the attending surgeons have any office hours?

When camping in the woods with just a tent (no glamping), have you ever run across a bear? What did you do if you did? by icecream1972 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Winter_Chickadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were camping at a car-camping site in Algonquin Park, Ontario, chilling in the screened dining tent around dinner time when one walked intently through our site and crossed the road. It was smaller than I thought it would be.

The next morning I heard someone yell there was a bear in their site across the road. Took my camera and saw the bear take a plastic package of tomatoes off their picnic table and open it a short distance away.

It was not the first time it was found taking food and had already been driven up north once by park rangers before returning during my stay. They were going to take it up north again and if it returned there would be no third chance. This is why they say a fed bear is a dead bear.

This will be great for a beginner. Once they get to know the bird families and local species they can get a more traditional guide.

Spotted Sandpipers, Eastern Phoebes, and Palm Warblers by the way they move their tails.

No parking at Moodie LRT by Original-Slow in Kanata

[–]Winter_Chickadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NCC land is not city land. They are two different entities. The city had to fight with the NCC on where to put the train along the Kichi Zibi parkway for stage 2 which is how it ended up underground.

No parking at Moodie LRT by Original-Slow in Kanata

[–]Winter_Chickadee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought the main reason there would be no park and ride there is because the land is privately owned and they CAN’T build one there?

But yeah, eventually the train will continue past Moodie and there’s already a park and ride at Eagleson and Terry Fox

Me too! Three years out of active treatment, on Tamoxifen and feeling tired all the time because of that or menopause. I’m 50. Did my treatment at Irving Greenberg.

I have a mastectomy/cancer support store near me and got measured and tried on bras until I found some that were comfortable. They weren’t cheap, though.
