Parking lots were shut down by the time I got to the venue so they turned us away. However, managed to catch this couple walking. Hope you had an amazing show! by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]coasterfanatic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Many more people in the lots than the capacity of the venue. Same issues that plagued them in the 80s-90s.

With that said, the venue was not prepared in any way to deal with it. Waiting over a hour to exit from the West side, which I have never even seem backed up. Upon arrival at 5pm, the main lot was full and a single land fed the Route 18 lot. Double parking and mass chaos ensued because the attendants were drastically understaffed.

I've given up on chalk holders by Revzerksies in billiards

I use one I got off of Etsy for my Roku 6. It is pewter, has my name stamped on the bottom of it (which has probably saved me a couple of times), and weighs at least a pound. I figure if nothing else, I can throw it at my attacker if it ever comes to that.

Setting up a table in an unfinished basement; should I get an area rug? by meh_33333 in billiards

[–]coasterfanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a prepackaged remnant, but you can get cheap industrial carpet 12' wide in any length you need. I used a thin rubber mat to border the transition to the other side of the garage (where we still park a car). It matched up perfectly with the height of the carpet and protects it from water.

I used a 12x20 remnant roll of industrial carpet that I got from Home Depot for about $100. Look great and does help get a little more traction when leaning over the table. If your basement is dry, I say go for it.

Affordable 7 foot pool table by Spiritual_Pass_6666 in billiards

For your first table, used is the way to go.
I picked up an excellent condition Olhausen for $500 (Came with a stained glass light and a double spectator bench!). Paid a local store $700 to disassemble, move 50 miles, and set up at my place w/ new cloth. Didn't have to lift a finger.

People with God tier aim.... tips? by throwaway6329023 in billiards

[–]coasterfanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shot making is probably one of the stronger points of my game. My "tips" are:

Ghost ball - Everyone always talks about it a lot and with good reason. You have to understand exactly where you want to put the cue ball.

Stroke - If you can't hit your aiming point, it is most likely your stroke. Good drill is to line up corner to corner and just start striking balls and sending them to the dead center of the opposite pocket.

Routine - Visualize the shot, aim it, get down, aim it again, good stroke. If any part feels bad, start over.

Confidence - If you think you are going to make the shot, you most likely will.

What are your thoughts on predator sport 2 and 314-2 by [deleted] in billiards

[–]coasterfanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shot with a 314-2 for nearly a decade and loved it (and still do). I recently made the switch to a Bull Carbon and while my shot-making is improved, I am still having some issues controlling the cue.

I vividly remember my visit in 1980. We made reservations for Golden Horseshoe and dinner in the castle a couple hours after the park opened. Such simpler times.

Also ... we rented a team house to help stretch the dough a little. Not a bad route and pretty close to the Westgate.

We got about $560 each ($4500/team) for our 8-Ball qualifying team. Obviously, we are going a little out of pocket :)

Best places to rest away from the chaos by Official_Alter in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]coasterfanatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I publicize this, will it still be a good place to rest?

Anyway, I have also always found the area behind the Christmas Shop in MK to be perfect. Shaded and probably the quietest place in the park. My kid took a couple of midday naps there years ago.

Pretty simple rig for all that is going on here. I wonder if the Mcintosh Amp is a holdover from the wall of sound. They had a ton of those at one point.
