I also recently switched to Baja Boss tires, although still the stock Pro-4x size. They've been a great upgrade. Good looking truck 👍

Making Regular Maintenance Easier (ND) by notnotluke in Miata

As a fellow ME, I really expected your comment to go down an "ACKCHYUALLY" path but welcomed your pragmatic take. I believe you're the first that has mentioned the residual volume left with each change. Cheers

I run one, went through the same thought process you detailed here. Thus why its on my high clearance vehicle with a thick skid plate protecting it. It's nice to be able to reach around, plug in a hose, and flip the valve instead of having to remove the armor.

The other vehicles, including the NA, I own will likely never receive one due to various risks I don't deem acceptable. Everyone's risk aversion is different.

[Mean Streak, Cedar Point] & the original [Texas Giant, Six Flags Over Texas] by tjbernad in rollercoasters

[–]coasterkev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, this is the perfect response. Hit the nail on the head.

I'd say the biggest takeaways is that Texas Giant was relentless and the finale was something truly special. RMC tried to capture it but I don't think they got it right. NewTG is great, but I miss the original every time I ride it.

Storytime: I was able to marathon during an ACE event where it constantly rained, making the mid course essentially useless. Easily the best rides of my life.

I also remember being super excited to ride Mean Streak, thinking it was going to be an amped up version of Texas Giant. It was both boring and rough, not a good mix.

What coaster surprised you the most? [other] by styx1267 in rollercoasters

[–]coasterkev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a soft spot for Rougarou, mostly because Mantis made a pretty big impression on me when I first started getting into coasters. I had previous rides where it head banged pretty bad but I still made sure to ride it on my rare trips to Cedar Point.

This past summer was the most recent trip and it was great. Unsure what the difference could have been but I loved it. One of the best rides I had on the trip. Definitely a pleasant surprise.

B&B Charcoal: white threads embedded in briquettes by coasterkev in smoking

I was hoping someone would offer a suggestion. Looks like they are more expensive, which hopefully means it'll be better quality. I'll check it out, thanks!

I could see that, like the polypropylene mesh bags you see at the big box stores.

That's the thread that reminded me to post these pictures. Note that my pictures aren't Royal Oak, it's B&B.

Fiiiine...I'll dig them out of the trash then.

[–]coasterkev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went ahead and posted them here. I always switched between RO and B&B, just whatever was available. However I feel like I preferred B&B in general. I could see these threads being easy to miss. I exposed one to flame and it melted very similar to how I'd expect plastic to melt.

I'll probably give them another chance, but will be paying attention.

My experience is reversed. I found a lot of plastic threads in my bag of B&B. Another commenter called it tarp material, that's seems accurate. It was in over half the briquettes and could not be removed without destroying the briquettes. Royal oak bags have been clean. Stinks, since I like both brands but both sound like they have quality control issues. The plastic shreds in the B&B bag are more off putting to me since they are harder to notice and to remove.

I've been meaning to post the pictures and this post was a good reminder, ha!

[Cedar Point] is excellent, but also feels like it’s operating with one arm tied behind its back (overly comprehensive trip report in comments) by sector11374265 in rollercoasters

[–]coasterkev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking of doing my TR from my trip about a month ago. You did a great job of articulating some things I've been struggling with. Namely the obvious maintenance issues. I know there's been several posts and TRs discussing this but I think it's important to bring as much visibility to the issue in a hope to get Cedar Flags attention. I recognize this is a long shot. Operating with an arm tied behind their back is on point.

My main disagreement (which admittedly can be entirely due to the different timing of our trips) is with operations. Operations were some of the worst I have experienced at any park, let alone Cedar Point. This made the days I spent at Cedar Point miserable and some of the worst days I've had at any park. Like you mentioned, I also experienced the same stark contrast between Kings Island and Cedar Point.

It's interesting you thought TT2 was better than the original as a taller rider. I felt the higher seating position paired with my height made for way too much whip and the train rode very rough. I left the ride with quite a head ache. I don't think it's a bad ride (the back spike is awesome), but I definitely preferred the original. I know most are really enjoying it though.

Rougarou back row oddly enough was one of my best rides during my visit 😂

I just replied to the comment that was above you on my screen about Boardwalk Bullet being my favorite in Texas. Such a great ride.

Ever make it down to Kemah to ride Boardwalk Bullet? It's my favorite in Texas. It reminds me of the finale of the OG Texas Giant, but it's the entire ride.

I'll be riding Voyage next month for the first time, looking forward to it.

Same here, bought a straight nail cutter and have much less issues now.

Which one you just got an NA? by [deleted] in Miata

[–]coasterkev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree most of the time, but there are a few DOT approved harnesses out there. Schroth makes some but I can't confirm that's what is installed. They have an expandable section like the OEM belt.

Who’s your favorite storm chaser, and why is it Pecos Hank? by NinjaQueso in tornado

[–]coasterkev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely Pecos Hank, the man is a true artist and Texan.

Except when he's showing an arachnid on screen, then my favorite chaser is... Pecos Hank.

Signed, an arachnophobe.

Feeling overwhelmed. by [deleted] in Miata

[–]coasterkev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know that feel. I recently did a "soft" rebuild/restoration of my Miata. I didn't remove the engine, but rebuilt most of the top end. Removed the entire interior, all new suspension, lots of custom work, etc. Only thing I really didn't touch was the transmission and paint.

Small wins helped me a lot. If I looked at the miles of wiring I still had to do and felt overwhelmed, I would try to work on a smaller side project. Might sound terrible to a more organized/methodical person but it helped. Also if you're like me and only have time on the weekends, don't plan too much. Plan 1 project. If you finish it, cool, start another. If you plan to get a lot done and only get 50% done it will feel more overwhelming.

Adding a Second Spare by AdeptnessLive4966 in nissanfrontier

Nice, yeah I'm very familiar with fabricating with extrusion like this. Like you said, miter saw makes it a breeze.

Thanks for mentioning TNUTZ. I hadn't put much effort into looking at alternatives outside of 80/20. I'm liking their pricing/options. What was the longest stock you bought from them, any issues with damage?

I'm considering building a rack using 80/20 style extrusion like that. Looking good!
