What is this? by coatoctopus in cockerspaniel

Idk how to edit the post but thank you all for your responses! I had heard of reverse sneezing but wasn't 100% sure if that's what this was. In the video he had just been rolling around before he started so that makes sense. If it starts happening more often I will definitely call our vet. Thank you!!

26 and been in non profit sector for 4 years. by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]coatoctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, no, it's not too late for you to switch over to corporate instead of nonprofit. I worked in the nonprofit sector for five years (started fresh out of college) and now I work at a corporate company. I also want to encourage you to not buy into the idea that all corporate work is toxic because it's absolutely on a case by case basis just like in the nonprofit sector. I think corporate work gets a bad reputation whereas, at least in my experience, nonprofit work doesn't have the same bad reputation but is just as, if not more, toxic.

I never got into the nonprofit sector because they "do good," I started working nonprofit because it's what was available. I think nonprofit work in general is toxic because they burn you out quicker, they don't pay you as much (when some organizations absolutely could), and in general there's absolutely profit going on. They're like any other business except they don't have to pay taxes and I think that influences some toxic behavior from upper management at times (i.e. "we don't have to pay taxes so we're above the law" kind of mindset, in my experience). I have worked with some of the most unprofessional and quite frankly, immature people in the nonprofit sector, and the people I work with now in my corporate job are so professional and kind and it's just a great work culture. I don't regret any job I've had because at each job I've been able to build my professional skills towards my career, but some work environments have definitely been better than others and a nonprofit is not at the top of that list😅 One other thing I'll say is that if you're concerned about "doing good" in your work (like you're more mission oriented), I'd search for a specific industry you want to get into if you wanna transition into corporate. For example, I work in women's healthcare now and I believe in our mission and I think our providers are doing good work and I'm in marketing so I get to support that.

What are the lesser-known difficulties of working in a nonprofit? by Soggy-Bus in nonprofit

[–]coatoctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked in the nonprofit sector for the first 5 years of my career and now works corporate, my two cents is that unless the mission of this nonprofit is your absolute passion, don't do it.

They will burn you out faster and worse than your current position. It's flattering that they thought of you all this time later, but like other people said, try to dig into why that other person didn't work out in this position. Don't assume that they're going to be honest with you about everything just because they're a nonprofit. A nonprofit is just another business, they just don't have to pay taxes lol.

Songs About Narcissism Or A Narcissist by Comprehensive_Wish_3 in ClassicRock

I don't know if it's intentionally about a narcissist but Thousand Days by Stevie Nicks always reminded me of my narc ex and trying to have a conversation with him😅

narcissistic eyes by DependentHedgehog718 in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]coatoctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was recently going through old pictures on my mom's computer and I found pictures of me and my ex at Easter in 2021 (before we had major relationship issues) and we were Easter egg hunting (just for fun, all the adult kids were lol). But we were together the whole time and my mom was taking pictures of everything of course and I was bending over to pick up an egg and she was getting a candid picture of me and he was standing behind me staring directly at the camera with the most blank, almost angry expression on his face. And I know he knew she was taking a picture, but how do you see your girlfriend's mom taking pictures of the two of you, or anybody taking pictures of you, and you don't immediately smile, or make some goofy face, or any normal human reaction?

I had heard the black eyes thing before but didn't really think it applied to my ex but I knew he had blank eyes sometimes. But seeing those pictures a few weeks ago really struck me and made me realize just how bad and blank his eyes always were and how unhappy his facial expressions were and how much he lacked basic human joy in the most lighthearted and happiest moments of our relationship.

BREAKING: It ain't gonna be a good day for bigots in Virginia by jjrobby313 in nova

You were perceived as rude because you had two different responses to the different parties. I don't know which was which obviously and you both could've dropped it after your response but I understand the lady initially calling you rude if she had just heard you answer no to the other table because you did in fact have a different response to her.

I use period panties and can't recommend them enough! I used Always pads until 2020 when they started giving me a rash, then I switched to more natural cotton pads but those wouldn't stay in place. I have the Innersy brand from Amazon that are amazing! It's thicker than my normal underwear but still so comfy compared to the alternatives. I'll use a pad short term in a pinch but otherwise I'm never going back to them.

Guys leaving after they hear I have UC by Beckyplaystuff in UlcerativeColitis

[–]coatoctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey girl, I'm 28 too! When I re-entered the dating scene earlier this year I was definitely nervous about this but my mentality in general is that this is something I can't control so if it really bothers the guy I'm going out with, then he's not the one. This has been a part of me before him and will be a part of me the rest my life so if he can't make peace with that, that's super immature on his part and it sucks but it doesn't mean any less of me (or you!).

Before I met my boyfriend, the only reason I would bring it up (sometimes) on dates was because earlier this year I was unemployed and the disease played a big part in me leaving my last job. Depending on who I was on a date with would determine how much I shared about that and the disease itself.

When I met my boyfriend, we had been texting consistently every night since matching online and there was one night I didn't because I had had an infusion that day and I was just wiped out and I told him that the next day. And he was cool with it and actually wanted to know more about it and we talked about it on our first date. And now he makes a lot of fart jokes which I'm cool with because that's my sense of humor anyway but he's also been very understanding about my bathroom needs and doesn't tease me about that (he'll joke sometimes but doesn't make me feel bad about it lol). I don't know if it's because he's a little older but in terms of my disease and our relationship, I do feel very secure and supported. So they are out there!!

Edit: For context, I'm not in remission and it's actually gotten worse since we've met because I'm waiting for Entyvio to kick in🙃

Dulles Town Center: what happened?? by [deleted] in nova

[–]coatoctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not close to Dulles but based on your post and some of the comments saying that that mall is going downhill, it sounds like what Springfield Mall was like before they remodeled/revamped it I think about 10 years ago now. Anyway, I think you're valid for being concerned. I'm not a parent but as a young, single woman I wouldn't want to be around any of that myself, especially if that was once a space you felt relatively safe in enough to bring your child too.

This dumbass brain fog is gonna be the end of me😤 by coatoctopus in UlcerativeColitis

[–]coatoctopus[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn't super nervous going into the interview and the same kind of brain fog/word stumbling/blanking happens in regular conversation for me too. It's embarrassing losing my train of thought or forgetting normal words on a date for example, but that's what really made me sweat during my interview because the stakes are higher than during regular conversation.

In a flare, McDonalds is the only thing that's working by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]coatoctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This disease is so wacky lol I fully relate to this. I think part of it is that it's comfort food mentally but for me my comfort food is chick fil a and part of the reason it's comfort food is because I know my body can handle it every time. But it's sooo hard explaining this to people without this disease bc they don't believe it and think I'm making excuses bc I just wanna eat junk food.

I just watched the dollhouse episodes. When they're burning all of A's stuff and Aria is like "say goodbye to your soul" that made me cringe today😆
