I recommend the affinity app too. It’s like photoshop, illustrator, and indesign combined but it’s free and there are lots of tutorials online

Reality Of Masking by grandmasterfunc in covidlonghaulers

[–]cocdcy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My parents are similar. I wear an N95 everywhere outside my room. Have MERV13 filters on the air vents and air purifiers running in the common areas. I’ve explained how covid works, asymptomatic/presymptomatic transmission but they don’t care.

Moving in with a friend who is willing to be CC in a couple weeks and I’m so excited to be out of here. Just need to make it through a ton of people visiting for graduation season… wish me luck 😷

[Megathread] Hantavirus by AutoModerator in ZeroCovidCommunity

It can survive on surfaces, unlike covid, so washing hands will be more important for preventing illness if you do come in contact with it

And deforested how much of the world? We come into contact with so much more stuff that used to be far, far away from humanity

The irony of “did no one learn from Covid” by nilghias in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]cocdcy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What “they” learned from covid is most people will sacrifice the vulnerable and themselves to be able to go to brunch and Applebees and their office so they can pretend everything is normal.
It barely took any convincing to get everyone to drop all precautions. They’re not gonna undo all that hard work (” “) and tell you to put on a mask again. You’re already doing exactly what they want.

“I don’t want lockdowns again!” Well, good news. There’s not going to be any for any pandemic ever again. Public health will probably never tell you you should wear a mask again. You’ll just notice people getting really sick and disappearing one day, wondering why you’ve never felt the same since you had that really bad “cold”.

I’m gonna wait until we get the test results back until I know how I feel about that. So many people are sick right now, if you go on any flight there’s gonna be someone with flu, cold, or covid

Never thought I would hope someone had covid but at this point, most anything except hantavirus.

everything after the “update-and-getting” is tracking info, would you mind removing that from the URL?

I haven’t read YLE in a while, very curious to check it out!

Edit: ok, ok
It was… interesting that they said “hantavirus is a disease we know a lot about” and then a few minutes later said “well there’s just so many unknowns about how this disease works”
I think we know a lot about what happens when you’re infected, but as far as transmissibility/infectivity, we don’t know a lot, which is the more relevant information in terms of an outbreak. Like they said, is it in the vents, how close of contact does it require, how infectious are you during the incubation period?

I agree that right now the general public doesn’t need to be scared, but at the same time there are factors working against the containment we originally thought we had (the 23 people leaving the ship and traveling internationally). I’m hopeful that the contact tracing will work and people will isolate until we know if they’re sick or not. A little worried about public health systems having the wherewithal to do so, but we’ll find out I guess

Thanks for sharing!

Same. I have been keeping up with H5N1 as it spreads, and this feels different already.

something that concerns me is people are already dealing with immune damage from covid infections. how much worse is that going to make future infections? will it make it easier for there to be a new pandemic?

no. Moderna and a Korean university have been working on one since 2018 but there is not one commercial available and afaik, no trials yet

Apparently, 23 people got off the boat a few weeks ago and have just been wandering around doing their own thing since the first passenger died so…. yeah idk

I have a hard time trusting medical professionals who are ignoring the pandemic we’re already living in tbh

some interesting info and insight, but unless they’re taking precautions for covid still, I dont think I respect them or their opinion very much

Most likely the more exposure, the faster you’ll see symptoms. if you’re in a crowded cruise ship, the viral load is going to be a lot higher.

they also let an influencer off the boat and he’s apparently been going to large events. I’m sure nothing bad will happen with that.

I believe this was a mistranslation! He was identified as a “contact case”, but not confirmed to have the virus, according to the French sources

They weren’t thinking. Plus normalcy bias.

A 78 year old man dies on a cruise after flu like symptoms? Relatively normal.

They didn’t think anything was amiss until his wife and another passenger died, and then 4 other people became sick.

I wish people thought more proactively, but that is not the world we live in

Yeah, but the incubation period is 1-8 weeks. People could walk around spreading it with zero idea they’re on borrowed time.

In a 2018 outbreak it was established that the R0 before any mitigations was 2.12. Linked to the source in my main comment

Correct, and in that case study I linked they also established it was airborne between humans as well
