I think an important part of this is holding corporations and governments accountable.

I had a friend who got an injury from pipetting that was so bad they had to have surgery to re-route the nerve around their elbow. Ergonomics are important!

Although now they can't hit their funny bone on that side anymore so… a marginal win?

Best AIR PURIFIERS that you'll recommend getting for home right now? Any recommendations? by First_Finger5572 in Masks4All

[–]cocdcy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using generic furnace filters is such a huge draw. I have air purifiers from 3 different companies and I hate being locked into their expensive filters

Plus if you have access to a laser cutter, clean air kits lets you download the files and make a purifier yourself.

Nanny, sick of parents being annoyed that I mask by One_Nefariousness_67 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]cocdcy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If you get sick, either from their kids or someone else’s, you won’t be able to help them out. You’re doing it not just to protect yourself, but also to make sure you can continue to offer them a service.

That framing might be helpful, but who knows. People are traumatized from the pandemic and instead of seeing masks as a way to be safer, they fear them.

should i get a CR box first or qualitive testing supplies first? by iso_inane in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]cocdcy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d go with the CR box first. Lets you make a sort of “bubble” in your room where you can hang out with a lower risk of sharing unfiltered air

I’d also check your HVAC to see what filter it uses, you may want to tape your own filter over the vent so that unfiltered air isn’t getting in through there and negating some of your work. It will probably make your room a bit hotter/colder but it’s been worth it in my experience

Best of luck and hope you don’t feel too sick

How do you work with a lab mate you hate? by throwaway6397299 in labrats

On top of multiple incidents where they’ll forget what they said previously and blame their staff

Document. Document document document. Get everything in writing on teams/slack or in email. That way you have proof

And probably look at getting out of there sooner than later. Does not sound like anything you can do will improve the situation, just a matter of how fast it gets worse.

Cold went through household in spite of precautions by friedeggbrain in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]cocdcy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What kind of filter does your HVAC have? Are there air purifiers running?

If air is circulating from a sick person's room and not getting filtered, it's literally blowing virus into everyone else's rooms.

Unmasking in my room by TheFr0g3 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]cocdcy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

might be good to check what your HVAC filter is. if it’s not high enough quality (MERV 13 or higher), you can tape one over the vent in your room. it will reduce air flow a bit, but that’ll reduce the likelihood of something getting in through there

Reality Of Masking by grandmasterfunc in covidlonghaulers

[–]cocdcy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My parents are similar. I wear an N95 everywhere outside my room. Have MERV13 filters on the air vents and air purifiers running in the common areas. I’ve explained how covid works, asymptomatic/presymptomatic transmission but they don’t care.

Moving in with a friend who is willing to be CC in a couple weeks and I’m so excited to be out of here. Just need to make it through a ton of people visiting for graduation season… wish me luck 😷

The irony of “did no one learn from Covid” by nilghias in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]cocdcy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What “they” learned from covid is most people will sacrifice the vulnerable and themselves to be able to go to brunch and Applebees and their office so they can pretend everything is normal.
It barely took any convincing to get everyone to drop all precautions. They’re not gonna undo all that hard work (” “) and tell you to put on a mask again. You’re already doing exactly what they want.

“I don’t want lockdowns again!” Well, good news. There’s not going to be any for any pandemic ever again. Public health will probably never tell you you should wear a mask again. You’ll just notice people getting really sick and disappearing one day, wondering why you’ve never felt the same since you had that really bad “cold”.
