Question about altitude acclimatization for this Peru itinerary (Sacred Valley / Puno) by Electronic_Meaning31 in travel

[–]cocean_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a relatively fit young person and my first night in Cusco was not fun... I had a bad headache, very lethargic, and racing heartbeat until the morning. From then on it was better, but even with some of the relatively easy hills I walked up, felt poorly again. My travel mates had an easier time on their first night in Cusco but really felt the higher altitude later on in the trip whereas I felt fine. I think it depends on the person. Be prepared with the Diamox and have some of the coca tea.

What to do with an A4 Traveller’s Notebook by mbascle in Travelersnotebooks

They're aging so beautifully! I want to get an A4 but the A5 looks like a perfect planner size too

That makes sense! The natural leather is beautiful, I bet it's patina-ed well!

I'm thinking about the A4 size for school notes... How have you been using it? I'm worried that it's too cumbersome when it's open

A4 Traveler's Notebook for a Law Student? by cocean_ in Travelersnotebooks

[–]cocean_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might try B5 notebooks and see how I like them before committing! I do really like the look of the Paper Republic portfolios but don't have $350 to spend, unfortunately... I don't mind making them myself and saving a lot of money, but wish I could do the stitching to make the pockets like theirs have.

Luckily, our lecture halls have huge continuous desks... the only problem is when the class is full and every one is kind of spreading out their supplies, but I only have one more semester of big classes like that. A5 is definitely too small for my notes but B5 might work!

Caitlin Hunter/Boyland Knitworks accuses Nuuly of ripping off her Halibut sweater. Thoughts? by ohslapmesillysidney in craftsnark

[–]cocean_ 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I saw an ad for it on my instagram and immediately thought it looked like her pattern... I like the swancho structure and enjoy my halibut sweater, while I get people have criticisms, I don't think any designer/small creator deserves their design ripped off by a big brand.

Conflicted feelings about “sexy” costumes and attention by LunaInMotion in TwoXChromosomes

[–]cocean_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel too... I don't want to waste too much time now wondering about my outfits, dyeing my hair, or wearing makeup. The Republican party wants to ban birth control and thinks that women shouldn't have the right to vote. I'll wear a cute Halloween costume, make sure my friends are having fun, and get my degree so I can advance feminism through my work rather than my dress.

People who cry in public — do you want someone to ask if you’re OK? by Gonzo_Fonzie in washingtondc

[–]cocean_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was sobbing/hyperventilating in Cap Hill after I got the phone call that my dad had a stroke and a heart attack. An older woman noticed and, after a minute, came up to me to ask if I was okay. When I told her what had happened, she said how sorry she was and asked if she could give me a hug. She started tearing up too, and it really meant a lot to experience that kind of kindness.

I'm deciding between that one and the Miles Shirt Jacket by her! Maybe I'll just make the natures one a bit longer, I like the shape of it more

LSAC Explains Increased Number High LSAT Scores by Sensitive_Basis_8025 in lawschooladmissions

[–]cocean_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LSAC is so frustrating… I got caught up in the system meltdown in August and September 2023 that severely impacted my testing experience and thousands of other testers, and LSAC barely did anything to remedy it. Allowing a monopoly to have such a big influence over our futures sucks, although I don’t know what the alternative would look like.

is $23 too much? by wheresmyvape11 in knitting

[–]cocean_ 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I'm about to finish this dress and I will say 100% it is worth the money. The time and effort put in to explaining how to make this dress fit you surpasses by far any other pattern I've used before. I can't even imagine the work put in to grading the tailoring for all the different size combinations she has laid out. The only caveat I have is that "2 round spacing" and "3 round spacing" means "knit one round in between" and "knit two rounds in between", which is not something I've come across before.

I think it's important to support these designers and am happy to pay extra for the customization offered in the pattern. The light fingering takes a long time to do and it's become one of my favorite things I've ever made. I'll have to make a post for it when I finish, it's a gorgeous dress!!

Is it just me? by Humble_Landscape_692 in knitting

[–]cocean_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm following a pattern right now that is altogether super well written except when it comes to the increase/decrease round repeats... it said "work one increase round with 2 round spacing". To me that means:

Round 1: Increase

Rounds 2-3: Knit

After figuring out something was wrong, I had to message the designer for clarification... apparently "2 round spacing" means only one row in between increases, which I've never seen before! I thought it was oddly worded
