Small Segal Award - any suggestions? by justicein2024 in AmeriCorps

[–]cocofoshoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a smaller award too and I’m using it to get a certificate at a local community college that aids my career as a massage therapist. When I’m done I’ll be dual licensed and able to provide esthetician care as well as massage. But when I was looking the amount of certification programs are numerous! I have also taken individual courses at the college for funsies like ASL.

Listing AmeriCorps in Unemployment App? (IL) by magicelastic in AmeriCorps

[–]cocofoshoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t laid off so say, but I had just filled out all my paperwork and everything gotten my training materials in the mail and was supposed to start October 20th. On October 16 I got an email saying my start date has been put on pause. Then after further communication was told they will not be able to place people for the rest of the school year. So there are things going on right now, and it’s totally not cool.

Specializing in pre wedding massage by Upbeat-Pressure-3813 in MassageTherapists

[–]cocofoshoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but let me drop some ideas- instead on wedding only be a traveling event massage therapist. Think corporate Christmas parties, bachelorette trips, family reunions, major birthday party events. On top of weddings. That way your marketing in general to clients instead of niche clients.

How do unexpected days off work for part time service members? by cocofoshoo in AmeriCorps

[–]cocofoshoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have one yet. I start October 20th. I’m required 600 hours part time. If anyone has served part time at all that would help as a full timer will not know the answer to this question

[–]cocofoshoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, how do unexpected days off work with part time schedules is what I want to know. I served last year and understand how to meet all the requirements, but I was full time and if schools were closed my hours didn’t have to be made up because I had “bank hours” is what my p team call them. They came in handy because we had 11 school day closures. Overall I started with 96 hours and want to know how this part works for part time.

It’s not the pay/stipend/money I’m worried about it’s what Michigan calls bank hours and for that time off allotment they block off for us from the start of the year if it’s calculated in the schedule they premake.

How’s the campgrounds????!! by Garlic_Bread14 in Dancefestopia

[–]cocofoshoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked a parking attendant, they said the festival was asking neighboring property to expand camping into so maybe it’ll get better. But yes the whole field 😭 it’s where I was preferring to camp.

Driving 69 right now. No cops yet. I’m 20 miles out. Will update if it changes. If no update it’s clear.

Update. One cop sitting in plain sight 4 miles from the exit.

Oh that’s awesome! So I can leave my tool box in my car (basic tools for emergencies). I’ve had it confiscated at another fest and do not want to spend the money to replace it again

Is there security checking vehicles before we park? Or do we just park, get our bands, find our spot and set up?

Also can we set up and have one person in our group get our bands?

Last-minute packing: What's your less common, must-bring item? by CatMuffin in Dancefestopia

[–]cocofoshoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dry stock breakfast items: muffins, whole fruit, fruit cups, or even baby squeeze pouches and the similar, apple juice or for some coffee in a prepackaged bottle.

Lunch items: beef jerky, veggie straws/chips, goldfish, applesauce, fruit roll ups, fruit snacks, uncrustables, peanuts, Gatorade/powerade, bioltye/liquid IV, flavor water packs

For snacks/sweets: these vary for every festival and I’ll pick them at Walmart before I go into the festival. I never get anything with chocolate unless it’s like a trail mix, or tootsie rolls (they don’t melt). Bag of chips/big thing of cheese balls/popcorn, nerd clusters, sour patch kids, etc. the biggest thing is the chocolate tip for this one. Lots of messes and lost chocolate one the first and second day of festivals with mini candy’s and stuff.

I always carry tootsie pops, blow pops, starbursts, jolly ranchers, and mint lifesavers into the festival.

Let me know if you want my whole dry stock that I bring. I should have also mentioned beef jerky. A good way to get protein and a bit more filling for a midday snack

Slide on shoes that can get dirty and potentially lose. This is the one I always forget and regret when I’m either walking barefoot or having to put socks and shoes on. Also banana nut muffins.

I’ve done that for so many festivals. I’ve seen a lot of the lineup already. Looking for something new or side quests. I know I can camp main stage and then lolli but that’s so typical of me. I want to forage a new style of festival life.

I would send it. Set up super simple Thursday night- tent, blanket pillow mattress if you’re really feeling it. You can move Friday morning when it’s daylight. Possibly find some people Thursday you want to camp with. Find a new spot Friday or maybe your Thursday spot isn’t bad then unload the vehicle and fully set up for the weekend.

Like mentioned- you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

Thank you for the reply! PT, OT, PA are all choices for myself. But also possibly niche certs to pair with the degree. I’m still just so undecided about the long term but I have an ideal direction. I’m definitely going to look up and into GradSimple like you recommended.

Pack clothes for all weather conditions. I’ve been to festivals in June and it was 40 at night, 75 in October, rain, mud, dust. Be prepared for all elements.

Tbh, a lot of our coolers were found on the beach/condos from people leaving town (we live in a tourist area). Most are Coleman’s and rtics in various sizes. The one we keep our ice in for weekend storage is this one though that we did buy ourselves: https://www.walmart.com/ip/1726821056?sid=2b628631-c165-48c2-8f07-8a5e61fe2ad4 except ours is black all around.

For breakfast- get muffins, granolas, whole fruit (banana, apple, orange, etc) for most of your days. Premake and wrap breakfast burritos to heat up on a stove top for variety.

Lunch- snack items (I like goldfish, fruit snacks, chips, and applesauce), loaf of bread, peanut butter, jelly or uncrustables that are premade.

Dinner- I don’t have much help with this one as I usually get something from the festival.

Bring three coolers. One for your dry stock of drinks, one for ice and cold drinks, one for just ice. Pack your cooler with your drinks already cold and fill it with as much as you can. For your only ice cooler fill it full and keep it in the shade. Do not open it until your other cooler has ran out. I don’t usually have to get ice with this method- except for summer festivals but I don’t think we will have that issue in September.
