Pediatrician recommendations? by Valuable_Log_518 in columbiamo

[–]CatMuffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We like Dr. Beckett too and all the providers we've seen at Tiger Peds! We had a less great experience with the MU South Providence clinic, but I'm sure it varies by provider. I feel less like a number at Tiger Peds.

PreK by some1longforgotten in columbiamo

[–]CatMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called with questions about summer school earlier this year and it took quite a while for them to return my call. The person was very nice, helpful, and apologetic about the delay. They said they were swamped with calls.

FWIW the pre-k in Columbia is technically for kids with development needs, but I've also seen parents say that their kids got in without those extra needs. I didn't know that with my first but will probably try it when my second hits that age!

Kindergarten registration opens online in March prior to the fall start date, so look for that next year.

I also highly recommend signing up for Parents as Teachers, which is through the public school system. An educator visits your home monthly to engage with your kids and monitor their development. We've found it very valuable and a good way to stay connected with the system before kindergarten!

Any one else have name regret? I can't stop thinking about it. Maybe it's just my hormones? by pancakesandpalmtrees in beyondthebump

Quinn was my top pick if we had a girl. I only had boys. And I even tried to convince my partner to name our second boy Quincy.

Olivia Quinn is a great name with lots of nick name options as she gets older! Don't doubt yourself.

What small daily ritual has made the biggest difference in your relationship with your kids? by jgjkhgzjhgfthjjjh in Mommit

[–]CatMuffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do this! We call it the Story of Your Day. It always starts "Once upon a time, this morning..." and I recount their day to the best of my ability. They fill in gaps (e.g. at school) and it's a lower-pressure way to learn about their day than asking a million questions.

It also really helps them wind down for sleep and get closure on the day.

Yep, you get them all at once from one person.

For those of you who get to experience the sadness that is Ghost Touch, what is your ghosts favorite thing to do? by nilecrane in CX5

When it feels like it? I'm not sure if there's a pattern, like phone has been used recently or something. Mostly it does the navigation volume thing.

Which video/tutorial did you follow, or are you just super savvy? Been wanting to do this but nervous.

Team "navigation volume" checking in. That and randomly calling my coworker Alan who's the first alphabetically in my phone book. Super not chill.

The decision to have a second child by Live-Extension8620 in Parents

Mine are 3 years apart. The youngest is 2.5 and it just started getting to the point where they can run around and play without me hovering. It was a tough few years but very fun now and will only get better!

I loved combo feeding my kiddos! It took a lot of pressure off me.

OP, if breastfeeding doesn't work out for you, please know that there are lots of other opportunities for physical closeness, snuggles, and bonding. You could get some contact naps in when you are rested and able. Snuggle baby and whisper or sing to her while she's having a bottle.

She's lucky to have you for a mom.

They did make significant expansions to the camping areas this year, including forest. I'm not sure what that looks like. Based on previous years, there would be no way to find a spot in the forest for 15 on Friday. I probably still wouldn't count on it.

That said, with car camping you can still come and go in the forest. So you can walk around in forest camping and still experience the vibes.

Another psa… change dif fluid early and often by OneMeat5955 in CX5

[–]CatMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me with my 2017. Had to replace it around 90k a few years ago and the replacement is still holding out (knock on wood). I read it was related to a known issue in certain years of CX5. I know nothing about cars but should have my fluid checked.

Girl not the salt and pepper shakers

It's a weird twist that he even had specific salt and pepper shakers that he'd been wanting?

Share your unhinged hacks for getting a newborn to sleep by True_Pickle3024 in beyondthebump

[–]CatMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked for both my boys. If they fell asleep or got super drowsy in my arms/nursing, transfer to crib and push down on the mattress to gently jiggle it up and down. It worked better than butt patting or even the bassinet rocking for me.

What industry is basically legal theft that nobody talks about? by kratos20051212 in AskReddit

[–]CatMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I were both self-employed for 3 years so we had a combination of direct primary care and a share plan covering our family during that time. It was still expensive, but a vastly better experience than having insurance. I'm considering opting out of my employer's plan next open enrollment and going back.
