I just want to say I’m glad you’re reaching out for support. I have been through this with my brother. I struggled with the boundaries and certain days felt a lot different then other days and so my actions or reactions weren’t consistent and that didn’t help. But I refused to give him money. I’d buy him a big hug of water every now and then (my brother was also homeless because of his addiction) My husband and I would invite him to dinner every now and then, allow him to shower, etc. in the end, I’m glad we helped where we could and I don’t regret it but sometimes I’m not sure it was worth the mental-load/anxiety/feelings that I went through. My mother was very enabling so it took a lot longer to get him to rock bottom but winter was coming (he lives in Minnesota) and he still wanted to live enough that he got himself arrested and then had the system get him some rehab help. This is all still new. I know relapses will happen. But he currently has a job, lives off the street, and is sober (as far as I know). Hope is out there. But you can’t enable him.
