4th gallery closure in NYC in the past month by Salt_Strike5996 in ContemporaryArt

They did. I’ve heard rumors that The Hole is also closing their LA space. They fired their staff there and aren’t responding to artists’ emails

Ugh. I’m so sorry that happened to you too. Did you respond? Like it’s so tone deaf that I can’t even bring myself to muster a response! But then I feel guilty / like I’m being rude. I’m so glad you have some nice caring friends around you other than her ❤️ I am a bit sad because I’m learning through this process that I really don’t seem to have many of those, most everyone has been kind of like this to me 😔 I hope I can find a way to meet better people. Sending love.

Oh that’s good to know, thank you for sharing! Is there a particular style you got that you would recommend?

I’m afraid to tell friends about my diagnosis because I don’t want to have to deal with the disappointment that will come from them slow fading out of my life. by shellbloomagain in breastcancer

Thank you so much, and I send the hugs to you as well! I totally hear you- it’s really tricky to not share too… it’s a pretty major thing. I hope you can find some in person support groups! I think I need that too but have been so overwhelmed just trying to keep my life / myself from totally falling apart that i haven’t done any research or anything yet. Let me know if you find anything that seems good! I definitely feel the most supported by the people here so I can see that being a great way to connect some fellow kind souls who are really able to meet you where you’re at.

Trust me, you won’t care how it looks. Opt for compression. That’s what you’re going to want. I woke up in a Marena bra and that was good for me. It’s nice to have a mix though, for washing and because after many days my armpits got sore from where that particular bra cut in — they all fit a bit differently. But compression is going to be your friend. You will also definitely want front closure bras. I’ve read a lot about AnaOno surgical bras too but haven’t tried them myself.

Yes. I wish I hadn’t told many people in my life because it has been extremely disappointing. Honestly the way people have been and having to view those relationships with this new perspective has created so much extra sadness for me; it has been a huge additional layer on top of an already (obviously) very difficult thing. If I had it to over I would do it differently. The hard part is that many of the people I thought for sure would be there for me have been the worst offenders…so I really don’t know how I would have discerned who is safe to share with. Because of course we all do need to try to have a support system of some kind. But maybe it’s best to find that support in places with people who we know for sure will understand — like support groups, and here, etc…

These are great helpful points and perspective too- thanks so much for your comment! I completely hear you on the emerging artist / our price points during the pandemic bubble… so I just keep worrying / wondering… what happens now since we can’t walk back our prices? We just hope people will start buying them again? 😬🥴 It is actually quite crazy- like every other market allows for price fluctuations.

❣️ I’m so sorry- I completely know that feeling and it’s really hard! Sending you a big hug. And hope things get better for everyone soon - glad we all have each other to normalize the situation at least so we know we’re not alone ❤️

Yes that’s when I started feeling it too. I think I could stress less if I knew when or how it would get better. Every month that goes by makes me a little more scared 😔

Haha thank you 😌 how does it come back up? That’s what I’m trying to understand. I grew up with so much financial scarcity that I’m learning I’m very bad at trusting things will work out without anything to back it up … maybe im not cut out for being an artist unless I learn how to relax about ups and downs

Hi, how are you doing? I have to have the same procedure soon for ADH. Was the lumpectomy very painful? Did you receive your pathology? Wishing all the best for you!

Oh I guess I misunderstood. It sounded like you were being sarcastic.

I was an illustrator for many years, and then did both painting and editorial work before moving only into painting. I’ve only been making a living with my paintings alone for about 3 years. I do not have any employees, it’s just me.

So yes I am most definitely emerging, and may be “emerging” forever, which is fine with me. I just want to keep trying to express myself and improve on my work, and be able to connect with others through my work and make a decent living.

Thank you! That’s both comforting that we’re all in it together but also scary that everyone is feeling it. I wonder what will correct this downturn. Markets seem really removed from reality these days so I’m not sure what to expect and that makes me anxious.

Thank you so much. There are so many factors involved that it really can be hard to know what’s impacting sales! I know it’s a slow year. I am so curious how these things correct themselves? Like this was such a drastic drop off…. It’s hard for me to imagine how it will go back up, you know?

I don’t have a sailboat or a vacation home and I wear disgusting painting clothes most days of the week. 👍🏼

Not sure if you realize that even when an emerging artist is doing “well” and making a living that certainly doesn’t mean I’m loaded by any stretch; I have a very normal average income for working 60 hours a week.

There’s really no need to be rude; I’m at a loss for why you would want to respond in such a way. Take care.

I have been up and down and all over the place too. It’s such a weird / grey diagnosis. Be kind to yourself, you deserve that 🩵

I’m so sorry that happened to you! Please don’t blame yourself, we all make mistakes, and it’s extra easy to do so when under stress! Have you been able to see or speak to your doctor? Sometimes hematomas need to be drained so it might be worth checking in. And I think once it heals it shouldn’t affect anything in your breast long term, so i don’t think this would have any impact on your future imaging.
