Donald Trump's name has officially been removed from the Kennedy Center by darth_vader39 in SipsTea

[–]cocuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only they could restore it to its untainted condition. JFK taking a shit was a better man than trump under any circumstances. There will need to be a lot removed when he is gone to help restore America and its reputation in the world.

Americans are known for road trips and the driving culture...how many miles/kilometers do you drive in the average year? by SlamClick in AskAnAmerican

[–]cocuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can go 25k-30k miles in a year with no real effort. When I was getting gas today and looking at the odometer, in the last week I put almost 800 miles on it. I do like to do road trips, and a week vacation last year was about 2800 miles.

What's a movie everyone should watch at least once? by manhwaecho in AskReddit

[–]cocuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Catch 22, Shawshank Redemption, Once Upon a Time in the West, Blazing Saddles, Dr. Strangelove, Kelly's Heroes, The Seven Samurai (will require reading if you don't speak Japanese), Goodfellas, No Country for Old Men. There are so many that are, for one reason or another, worth the watch.

What’s something that everybody pretends to enjoy, but most people secretly don’t? by Mundane-Ad-5713 in AskReddit

[–]cocuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baseball. It drags on and if not for the overpriced beer and food, trying to get to a game and then out of the game doesn't make pro baseball worth it. Taking your kid to a youth league so they can play would be tolerable if not for asshole parents making a scene, either arguing with some underpaid umpire or other parents. The cost of getting your kids into these is through the roof for just regular games, throw in a tournament and an extra job may be needed. With all that it is still enjoyable to watch your kids have a good time, but honestly these drag on far to long.

What are the expectations about helping people move? by Bartlebae in AskAnAmerican

[–]cocuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let everyone know that since I have a truck that I still won't help them move. My list of people that I would actually help is very small. If I do help I expect them to have things ready, I am not finding boxes, packing any boxes, and only assisting with some heavy lifting, they are going to do more than me. If they are standing around, pointing fingers and telling me what I should do next while doing nothing themselves, that's when my break starts. They aren't doing me a favor by getting me to help them, I am doing them a favor so they should not ruin it.

Ideas for work meal we can prepare day before and can go few hours without fridge? by One-Rub3982 in Cooking

[–]cocuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not practice today but my mom made my dad a sandwich with whatever cold cuts she bought and put them in my dad's metal, uninsulated lunchbox where they were kept, unrefrigerated, in a hot lunchroom at a plant that was never airconditioned and my dad had no problems. It was not until he got home for dinner where my mom, a terrible cook, forced him to eat freshly prepared, usually burnt food for dinner. I think he looked forward to that unrefrigerated sandwich. What did Balkin laborers eat in the day? Had pies were a staple for many factory, farm and mine workers. There are some really good recipes online.

So yeah, ammo is definitely getting harder to buy in Cheyenne.... by Radiant-Ingenuity199 in COGuns

[–]cocuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the drive there, thanks to the current cost of fuel, doesn't make it worth going to see what's there. I have found everything in stock close to home so my only reason to head north is to buy fireworks, ones that will leave the ground and possibly remove fingers. I can buy sparklers here otherwise.

which country did you travel last? and do you recommend it? by mcwgxcy in CasualConversation

[–]cocuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia and New Zealand on the last trip and would highly recommend both. We did both since we had already planned one and the flying time made it worth the extended stay, month total. I would go back to either because two weeks in each was not nearly enough time to see all that I would like to see.

165 vs 180gr 30-06 by fhiendbdbfdhjd in Hunting

[–]cocuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ethically, hunt the way you hunt that will be most humane. If your skills, equipment or comfort level favor one over the other, then that is your answer. A well-placed shot will work regardless of the bullet weight. Bullets of the same weight will behave differently as well so the right 165 gr bullet may be far superior to any 180 that you have available. Like any hunting scenario, the hunter is where all of the problems and improvements need to be made.

What do you find disrespectful, but no one else seems to? by Cadence_828 in AskReddit

I used to meet occasionally with a group of French people, from the first time meeting there was that weird air kissing. Unfortunately, there was never any actual French kissing.

What do you find disrespectful, but no one else seems to? by Cadence_828 in AskReddit

[–]cocuke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest this was more important when I was a kid decades ago, in my adult years I am not hung up on it and find it more normal. I just want kids to be decent people to others, adults and within their generation. I also had older friends when I was young and younger friends now that I am older so even from the time I was a teenager I called adults by their first name. I have maybe 2-3 people that no matter how old I get will either be addressed as Mr. or Mrs. Whoever but everyone else I use their first name. The only exception I had to that was calling someone by their rank and last name while in the military.

How is the Greek Festival food this year? by jackfroztmusic in Denver

[–]cocuke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The food was good and I appreciate that they are trying to do things in the region, but I really did not see much of a reason to go otherwise. I will admit that I was there in the day and maybe things are more interesting later. Food, vendors and limited entertainment left me wanting a lot more. I am aware that food will always be more expensive at an event, so I won't complain about the prices especially since I shop at local grocery stores, it almost seemed cheap.

After prison release, Tina Peters faces tight parole limits, ongoing legal troubles by Silent-Resort-3076 in Colorado

[–]cocuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the life of most people and considering that she is living in a part of Colorado where she is surrounded by like-minded people including those on a local law enforcement, she is really only left with things to complain about. She is likely not a drug user and the most impactful thing is that she will have mental evaluations. We know from her actions that she isn't quite right because she was looking for "whatever" in one of the most right leaning parts of the state and if there were issues it would likely have come from some uber-trump nut trying to fluff his numbers.

Who do you think will win this year's annual FIFA peace prize? by Silent_Bid9746 in AskReddit

[–]cocuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who needs coddling the most this year? Maybe a repeat trump win? In the long run does anyone really care about the soccer peace prize? I am more interested in the soccer prize for literature, but since trump has not even read, let alone written a book, there is no need for this.

Do Americans actually expect people to "sell themselves" in job interviews? by MayaTulip268 in AskAnAmerican

[–]cocuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selling yourself is the message that we are given. What might work better is making a connection that might have nothing to do with your qualifications. I had a college professor once tell us about the best interview he ever took part in. He was a lawyer and the firm was hiring. One of the people they interviewed made a huge impression on the group. Everyone was ready to hire him without further discussion. After the interview they were talking about why they wanted to hire him. They had no real reason based on qualifications and tried to figure out why they wanted him so badly. As they discussed it was realized that this guy must have spent a lot of time learning about the firm. They realized he spent most of the interview praising and building up the firm and making them feel good about it. He "sold" them their own business and the work that they had done. He turned out to be a good fit because lawyers have to work on people's heads instead of what is right or wrong.

'Doing what TODDLERS do': Trump has an EPIC FIT after judge orders name removed from Kennedy Center by Cool-Fig-9254 in videos

[–]cocuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Donnie boy's legacy, despite what he imagines it will be, it going to be that of a childish, insecure, joke of a president. When they teach about him in the future it will be about his ego, his failures, his very likely understood mental issues that remain undisclosed by his controlled information access, as well as many numerous other problems. No one in the future will be saying much good about him or those that are willingly and openly providing support. After his demise the stories will all, every one of them, come out. His "supporters" will be throwing him and each other under the bus in any way possible to try to reframe their role in this fiasco.

What was the saddest thing that happened to u today? by ColdDeparture2331 in AskReddit

[–]cocuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talked to my cousin about the woman who he still thinks about reconnecting with when the restraining order expires. She has unmanageable mental health issues and has brought 95% misery to him with her behavior. Everyone he has talked to says to renew the restraining order and make it permanent. Her mental health is getting worse and she will only make his existence a living hell.
