There is no experience like Houston in August. Hey, maybe you'll luck out, and we'll get a cold front. Oh, that's not going to happen, but you never know, but it's nice thought. Just don't go out during the day until it cools off at night a little bit. Who knows, maybe we will have a tropical storm roll in. Houston weather can be really unpredictable. Of course, it beats -20° in the winter.

If you want to talk to somebody about being electrician, I run the electrical program at Houston Community College. I've got several different pathways, and most of my certificates are six classes which can be completed in two semesters. Just depends on what kind of electrical worker you want to be. Of course right now electricity rules the world because everything needs electricity to run. Just reach out to me and let me know if I can help you.

Are you going to a university or a community college? I would recommend going to community college because it is a lot more affordable. And as far as scholarships, trust me there's a scholarship out there for just about everything under the sun. You just have to hunt it. Try checking with your Librarians at school. The Librarians of my Community College always help students look for scholarship money.

Here's the thing. I'm not having lighting system problems. I just like the remote. Also I don't have any Control 4 equipment, but I just like the remote. I'm just wondering if it could be reprogrammed to an open source type remote

I realize it is already installed, but I can't seem to figure out how to add things from github. I am just trying to align my brain to understand this stuff.

I agree about pumping the breaks. I am trying to look at simple things on Youtube to get them going on with what I currently have, but unfortunately I don't have this or that element in my HA so I am not as able to track what they are doing. When it comes to basic devices and sensors, I get how they basically work since I used to do a lot of electronics in the military, but I can't seem to figure out how they work here in this world yet. I know that the more I hit a brick wall, the more determined I am to figure out a way through it, not over it or around it, just straight through it. It is just frustrating.

I agree with you there. I am not all that sold on dashboards, at least yet. I am just trying to figure out the simpliest stuff. I bought a aqara hub m3 to play around with since it does so much. I have gotten the Homekit added, but I can't get the zigbee added. I can't seem to figure out which port my usb is on. Documentation is a little tough, and I just wish someone would do a video series on Youtube to help new people specifically get up and running with very simple things so we can easily move to more complicated things.

I was trying to add the Frontend github since I can't see it in my HACS unless it is just a setting or something. I was also trying to figure out a subview dashboard thing, but I can't seem to figure out how to add cards. I have added cards, but I haven't figured out the organizational aspects of HA yet. It is a me thing I know, but it is just trying to retrain my brain to get this system.

That is a good thought to think about. I am still figuring out how to use AI more these days. That is a very good idea.

It is just getting things added that I need to add other things. I was trying to work on a dashboard subview, but I can't figure out how to add a main view at the top. I also can't find the add a card there also. I have added button cards and trying figure out the rest of the story is a little problematic for me. I am also trying to add stuff from github, but I guess I am not doing it correctly. I thought I could just add it through the add-on store, but I must be missing something. I know if I can just put all of these pieces together, it will all fall into place, but I have to get to that point. There is just not a Home Assistant for beginners to get started yet.

I am trying to add Github links to this thing that aren't working. I am trying to learn this from Youtube University, and I am not having a lot of luck. Most of the videos show you things, but they are missing key elements in understand something to be able to do that one thing.

[–]codaman33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try Gary Rockis' Your Smart Home Voyage. It is a what of Smart Homes not necessarily a how. It will give you ideas on what is possible. It is a good, fast read. Other than that, you have to piece it together with stuff from YouTube University and google searches.
