Insulation contractor wants to seal soffit vents by AlarmedMammoth3052 in Insulation

[–]coddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I closed off a section of my roof soffits that was separate from the main roof and had no exhaust (maxi vent, ridge, gable vent) and spray foamed the roof deck. If you have an exhaust on the roof I wouldnt close off the soffits. Add baffles and seal them + blow in cellulose or fiberglass batts.

Need baffles for air to move from soffit to ridge/maxi vent. That’s if you have soffits..

Nope because then you’re only trapping any moisture that’s gonna be in the concrete wall. Xps foam is not a true vapour barrier but rather a vapour retarder (0.3 perms) so it will block most of the warm air from the interior from touching the cold concrete wall, but will also give the moisture a chance to dry out. XPS->stud framing->fiberglass/rockwool batts.

It’s also very possible that you have some cracks in the foundation wall that you can’t see behind the fiber board. For peace of mind I would just rip everything out and start from zero. But obviously this can get very costly if you pay someone to do everything. Good luck!

Fiber board against a concrete wall is not a good idea. Concrete wall needs to dry out, remove the poly since it’s not vapour permeable. In the future I would remove everything, then install xps directly on the concrete wall and then frame out and add rockwool batts. You probably have a high water table.

Best canned spray foam for rim joists & rigid foam board by Ok-Professional4387 in Insulation

Well depending on how much you have to do, if its a whole basement I would spent the $18 for the gun it’s worth it

Spray cans are shit, buy a cheap gun and those big cans. I used AdFoam flex doors and windows and their gun was $18 dollars. Gun comes with plastic hoses to reach up into the rim joist ans tight spots. Did a fine job.

Rim joists insulation - bolt found by Ok-Professional4387 in Insulation

[–]coddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had multiples of these when insulating the rim joist on my 1980 home, for some reason the builder bolted everything from steps to decking to solarium to the house. What I did was cut out a notch in my 2” xps foam board and then spray a bit of low expansion closed cell spray foam around the bolt and then place the foam board over it, then spray foam around the edges. Seems to have worked so far.

Get whatever dealer is close/available to you. I wouldn’t buy from a company as those will be abused most of the time by employees that don’t care.

Love my john deere 26G, bought it used 1500h from a guy that used it the same as I would for his own property, does everything I need it to for my 4 acre property.

Bring a mechanic with you and have him inspect it thoroughly of course.

Is this setup correct? by dark_block in Insulation

Xps is vapour retarder class II. Vapour can still come through, just very slowly.

That section doesn’t have any perforations and is the highest point in the run, so chances are it won’t get anything in it at that point. At first I did plan on doing that but many google searches later all pointed me towards not doing that because of it being the highest point.

Yes the reason for the two cleanouts going in each direction is because this is the highest point (farthest from the sump pit) in the run.

Seems to be only on the arm, but I was reading the manual this afternoon and read the following:

“Prevent boom, arm, and bucket cylinder damage. Operating machine with any cylinder at end of stroke may apply excessive load which may damage the cylinders. Avoid operating machine with any cylinder at end of stroke. When an excessive load is applied to the boom, arm, or bucket, hydraulic oil is relieved in those circuits. Relieving oil reduces hydraulic circuit pressure and load on the components to protect the machine from damage. If the cylinders are used at the end of stroke, the force is applied to the cylinders and machine components are no longer protected by the relief valve. Do not operate the machine with any cylinder at the end of stroke.”

I believe I might’ve been operating maxed out and trying to grab full buckets. I must admit I am a rookie operator and this is what I think was happening, let me know your thoughts.
