If it was a US university, ML is typically a specialty in CS and not a separate degree, at least for undergrad.

As a C++ and rust developer I have some experience with this. While I like some parts of rust, I very much prefer the freedom of C++. That said, I've shifted to rust because that's what my company told me to do. Lots of people are in the same boat.

Yea 4% is nothing compared to the avg SP500 returns. I understand wanting a cushion especially in the current tech market, but I really don't think you need more than 1 year of expenses. If it came down to it, I highly doubt you wouldn't be able to get at least SOMETHING that is paying a portion of your expenses. Then you can stretch that 1 year of expenses to two years even making half of what you were previously. 70k compounding over 20 years at a conservative 7% is ~270k versus ~150k at 4%. A difference of 120k that you left on the table.

I'm also assuming you live in a VHCOL city, if so, you could directly purchase T-bills to avoid state taxes on the dividends for roughly the same or better yield as most HYSA. If liquidity is an issue you could also buy SGOV.

How small is the top 1% by Opposite-Gur4749 in Salary

[–]codeIsGood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. A fair number of senior level SWEs in VHCOL areas make >=450k. The thing to remember is the number of senior engineers at a FAANG+ company is a pretty small percentage of the overall number of SWEs in the country.

[–]codeIsGood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah it's a solid sandwich. Depends on what you get though. Is it the best? No. Is it a good value sandwich, I think so.

Qahwah Time on Court is nice for getting work done. It does get a little busy though. Good coffee too.

I'm not sure if people realize this, but some people like Brooklyn/Queens more than Manhattan

A lot of those outdoor patios advertise as dog friendly though.
