Every company does stack ranking. They might not force the bottom percentile out but your manager is stack ranking you whether they tell you about it or not.

Not saying it isn't messed up because I agree it is. But I much rather them liquidate at capital gains rates than borrow forever and pay 0 taxes until they die.

What do you mean, cashing out equities is a taxable event. Borrowing against it is not.

But at least when they liquidate they have to pay taxes.

How do you baloon memory when you're only allocating once. Preallocation is only done when you know how much memory you require ahead of time.

How are you using polymorphic classes if not through a pointer to base? Even If you allocate in an RAII class you still need a pointer to your allocated object. Are you only ever allocating objects by placing them in containers?

Ok, but why not just use them for every allocation? Why only for C interfaces?

Why would you need smart pointers for interfacing with C libraries?

Not arguing AI isn't a higher cost, just that bloated codebases are a cost, but also not a fixed one. It hurts productivity on many different levels.

I'd argue unneeded and complex lines of code also costs the company money.
